What happened today at the Youth For Christ building around 5pm (ish)? Surrounding streets were blocked off with police cars, everyone was outside. Police everywhere. Anyone know what happened?

Well according to the crime reporter for the Brandon Sun's twitter page two youths set a fire in the building and they were confronted by police near the university, a scuffle happened and an officer was stabbed twice in the leg and once in the lung. He is expected to make a full recovery though and the two youths are in custody.  

That is awful!

Glad to hear the officer will be okay.  
Imagine being stabbed in the chest area, terrible!  
 
Those "kids" at these kinds of facilities need to be in a boot camp! imo!

Yuck, no one wins in these kinds of situations.  
 
You're just lying on the ground in handcuffs & they haul you away. Now the cop & family have had that trauma & won't forget.  
 
Let's keep this in mind next time ebrandon lays down judgment on bps for not apprehending every criminal...there's a real physical risk to go in & actually accomplish it.

Not something we're used to hearing about in Brandon! Glad the officer is alright ! Stupid conviction to get for the offender !

i agree and glad the officer is going to recover, as much as sometimes cops are a pain to us im sure glad they are around to step up and deal with these issues, so thanks BPS

Great to hear that the officer will make a full recovery but my guess is the two offenders had a restful nights sleep in their own beds! There are no repercussions for these kids.

The one who stabbed the policeman is 19, hopefully will be charged with attempted murder of a police officer. We'll see though.

Sadly this young man seems to have mental health issues and wanted to be the one hurt not to do the hurting. It's unfortunate in mental health cases that their intent is to hurt themselves and feel the only way to succeed in totally damaging themselves is to strike out towards someone who can "finish the job". Glad policeman is ok and hope this all gets resolved in the best way.

I find it very frustrating that when a crime happens. The criminal and they are a criminal blamed and do not take responsibilities for their actions. And all you here is poor them  
They had mental illnesses. What a cop out. People who  
Have a mental illness do  
Know the difference between right and wrong and if they do a crime should pay the same price as everyone else and that means jail  
In some cases.  
 
If person is off meds they made that decision and need to be held accountable. There are many with mental  
Illness that don't commit crimes. Let's remove the excuses for criminal  
Acts by using the excuse oh the poor dear had a mental illness  
 
They knew what they were doing was wrong and they know what us right and wrong  
 
I should know as I have a mental illness

totally agree too. If you are smart, know the laws you will use/play the magic word 'mental health' or disability situation or stress issues in your relationship life or work place and there you are not slap as hard if you do a crime.  
We are all responsible of our actions, even a 5 year old knows when they did wrong even if they try to pretend not know it.
