To BIG TRUCKS and SEMIS:  
do not pass so close a cyclist on the road because with your height all sudden be so close it creates a claustrophobic in our head making scary to bike and be 6 inches from the curb there is no room to move.  
To OTHER DRIVERS  
do you realize when you rush to pass a cyclist to be ahead of the cyclist only to make a right turn to a parking lot or a street just few feet away that you DO SLOW down and slow down again further to turn right that the cyclist by that time had reached you at the point so you actually cut off the cyclist.  
Not all drivers like cyclists but some bike for for their way of transportation or they love the sport or stay in shape and healthy. We are just as human as you drivers and also deserve to stay alive just as much as you want to be.  
THANK YOU to ALL DRIVERS that share and give us room and respects us (cyclists) on the road. I found since last year some drivers seem to give space and room even once I reach a red traffic light that they are trying blocking me and squeeze me against the curb. I am not taking the whole place on the street only need less than 3 feet.

Seeing people riding bikes on crosswalks makes me furious!  

This is also good time to remind people to stay on the sidewalk when your waiting to cross the street. Defiantly when semis are turning a corner. Semi don't turn on a dime when there pulling a trailer, expesionly a 53' trailer and the trailer does not follow truck but will kind of drag to the side.  
 
I see way too many people standing in the street waiting to cross, when they should be standing on the sidewalk.

I always assumed that people would rather have me ride across so that they don't have to wait as long for me to cross the road. You'd prefer for me to get off my bike, walk it across, and make you wait twice as long?

yes, get off the bike and walk it!

Was told years ago that if your riding a bike in a crosswalk, no one has to stop for you and if you get hit its your fault, not sure if that's true though. But I do know that if your riding a bike your no different than a vehicle and you have to follow the same rules, like stopping a red lights and stops signs, riding on the road, yielding at yield signs, waiting until it's safe to cross a street(vehicles do not have to stop for you), signalling turns, etc. All the same rules as anyone in a vehicle.

if you are on the road you do not walk crossing the street because you are just a vehicle which drivers do not get out of their vehicle crossing a street

@ ultraguy, yes you expect the motorists to obey the laws, but cyclists seem intent in flaunting the law.  
Also I have saw cyclists on the highway , travelling against the lane of traffic.  
Talk about idiotic.  
Same with pedestrians who refuse to walk on the left side of the roadway facing the traffic.  
And the kicker is I have saw RCMP personnel drive right on by and not even stop to correct the person (s).

Getting back to the topic, in my opinion cyclists are a pain. They slow the flow of traffic weave all over the road avoid holes rocks drains etc thus making drivers want to get away from them. In turn we have to wait and make sure its clear to get round the slow moving vehicle. You dont pay autopac, to me you are all hazards and I say to you as a ( big truck )driver watch out for us.

Ok, if you prefer to wait longer for me to obey a law which doesn't impact anyone's safety, I'll start walking across.

If you are expecting to use a cross'walk' you get off your bike and 'walk' it across. If you want to ride it across then you follow basic driving rules and cross when traffic is clear, not stopping traffic for you to cross. Crosswalks are for pedestrians not moving vehicles.

anyone should be at least a meter away from the cyclist when passing, if a semi passed 6" away that is very dangerous and i would be trying to report the driver, just be aware tho that semis do take longer to stop so if you are on a route with larger traffic make sure you are doing everything so that they can see you, no professional driver wants to be put in a position of having to cut so close to a cyclist, not that they shouldnt be watching but with the speed difference and stuff it is really helpful if the cyclist wears reflective gear  
 
as for bikes ridding across the sidewalk, not only is it illegal it is dangerous.Traffic looks to the sidewalk to check for pedestrians that come up to crossings a lot slower, if the bike speeds up to and crosses the sidewalk quickly, it is easy for the driver to miss seeing them and hit them, if they are on the road way then the driver is looking for them as they do other traffic and expecting them to follow all the other rules of the road, including waiting for lights ect  
 
so if you want to use the sidewalk like a pedestrian then yes, get off your bike at the corner and walk it across, otherwise wait on the roadway until it is safe for you to go like any other vehicle

If people are still on their bicycles, why are people even stopping for them to cross? Treat them like cars. That's something that bugs me when I'm riding, people who try to "be nice" and hold up traffic for me to cross or do a left turn.

But in all three of the other Western provinces it is illegal to drive or ride a motorcycle with earbuds in listening to music. If that is the same in Manitoba and you are riding your pedal bike in traffic flow and are wearing earbuds that is probably illegal  

those that have to use a bike for transportation either out of need or choice. really dangerous on the busy main throughfares.  
 
never understood why the powers that be insist that bikers use the street an not the sidewalk.  
 
car/bike collision will be serious to the point of death, pedestrian/bike accident, not so much and both are going so much slower so easier to react.  
 
I saw a guy yesterday pedelling his ass off for all he was worth on Vic ave. doing probably 20 K. The problem with the picture was he was in the left through lane 4 ft from the curb. cars could not get around him unless they fully went into the right hand lane.  
 
thought bikers were supposed to use the right lane close to the curb.  
 
for those that ride on the sidewalk on those busy arterials, and God bless you I would too. please please stop at the cross walk and walk across. drivers pass you 1/2 down the block then slow down to turn right and by that time you catch up and we collide in the crosswalk cause we are looking for walkers about to cross not bikers that are coming out of our right hand blind spot at 20 K an hour.

my english awful, you are awful something else calling us hazards.  
Roads are not only yours. On highway or in town I do watch for you, I watch for signals on any vehicle and wheels if look they may turn, face/eye contacts if driver is watching me or ignoring my coming and watching their arm movements, watching the speed of driver if slowing down or pick up speed. Also I watch people walking sidewalk to cross the street and watch bikes on sidewalk crossing a corner without looking any direction. I watch bike patch see if any bike or pedestrian coming that may be hidden by signs or trees.  
This is not my first year biking and I do watch around me all the time, my eyes are open and pay attention.

Need to follow the damn rules of the road. Its pathetic. If im turning right and im ahead of u im not waiting for ur ass to pass me so i can turn, I HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. Stop and wait for ppl to complete the damn turn and then proceed. So sick of bikers acting like theres this "special" lane just for them cause there isnt

I do not think I am any more special than you are.  
Do not treat all cyclists the same and I do not take your right of way. If it is my turn to wait I wait if it is your turn to wait you wait.  
I take less space on the street than I am actually allowed and I do not cut off vehicles so buzz off jetsfan9 putting us all cyclists hazard. Are the police riding their bikes on the streets hazard and damn too? I don't think so don't treat us all the same.

on the Trans Canada last summer. 2 semis side by side, one passing the other, and as they rounded the curve, low and behold there was group of bikes riding 2 abreast. One on the shoulder and one partly on the highway lane. I really don't know how the semi driver missed the bike but he did.  
I know how scary it was for us watching from behind, can you image how scary it was for those 2 truckers??
