I've always done my best learning by necessity. If my trail shoes fell apart during an excursion, I'd sew them together or do the necessary adjustment to them. When I decide I want to learn how to stitch leather, I go get some leather and do that. There are a number of ways you can teach yourself that can be liberating, and very self fulfilling. Like picking up a needle and thread, and stitching things. Get your single hitch and double hitch stitches down, and your golden.
You can also go on youtube and watch videos on anything. Practically, any how to video that you ever want. And even more of those same videos you don't want to watch. Pick and choose. A few minutes spent studying will enhance your outcome, naturally.
I'm guessing you want to use a machine for sewing? If that's the case, I can't help you there. haha!
