So I am currently in the process of legal separation and divorce. My ex had a separation agreement written up. I am just wondering if there are any lawyers in Brandon that do payment plans for their services??? I do not qualify for legal aide but do not have a $2500 retainer up front. I don't know how long I can leave this to try to save money for it. Any advice would be great!

If it just a matter of drawing up papers regarding being separated for a year, and hence being eligible for divorce, you could get divorce papers drawn up for a small fee at the Brandon courthouse, and not need a lawyer at all.  
 
I don't know if this would work for your circumstances, but you could call them or go there and ask.

Do you agree with the terms of the separation agreement? Do you need help to see if you should sign those papers or if you should be contesting anything in the separation agreement? Or do you just need to sign the separation agreement papers that have already been drawn up to the mutual agreement between you and your ex?  
 
I hear that there is a Manitoba 1-800 toll free number for legal advice, but that there can be long wait times. I have never used it, so I can't comment much about it. Legal Aid probably has the phone number.  
 
The more that the two of you can agree upon without a lawyer, the less expensive it will be, but I don't know how possible that is in your situation.  
 
Technically, you don't need a formal separation agreement done up by lawyers, unless two two parties can't agree and need help. It's just the divorce itself where legal papers must be drawn up. But it looks like a separation agreement has already been developed.

it seems like you are going the cheaper route as it is; its not going to be that costly to be honest. If you have the seperation agreement and are in agreement, you shouldnt have to pay that much. I have yet to pay a $2500 retainer fee (my lawyer is Jodi Wyman and her retainer is $1500, only need to pay that if we go the court route). Go and see a lawyer for some guidance.

...might still be an option. I didn't qualify for free legal aid but I did qualify for a payment plan. $700 upfront and, $100/month after that.  
Honestly, It might not save money in the long run. The process has been painfully slow and my lawyer takes a very long time to return calls.

Jodi Wymann was the lawyer I wanted but he caught wind of that and retained her first. Still mad at him for it but I also didnt go see her first. I just want this done and I dont have that kind of money. Another issue I have with legal aide is finding the time to go. They only take walk ins one morning and one afternoon a week. Its a first come first serve basis. And I couldnt get there before almost 230 due to work. I am so frustrated with this. I dont agree with a few things in the separation agreement but mostly I dont understand half the garbage in it. Qq

Wishing you well. It's a tough road but you will get there. Hold on tightly and don't panic. I just went thru a divorce this past year and it was challenging. I would consider going thru mediation if your still on talking terms. There is one person in Brandon that does this for a reasonable fee.
