What you're describing sounds like the typical text message scam. With the classifieds being a local service it should be seen as an instant red flag when someone from out of province is contacting regarding an item. Another red flag still when texting you in this way and offering to pay in this way. You can read more regarding classified safety at:

Brandon's trading area definitely extends into Saskatchewan. I live "out of province" but am only 80 miles from Brandon. We do a large amount of our shopping there as we are 150 miles away from Regina. Please don't red flag everyone who lives outside your border as there are a large number of us who consider Brandon as our nearest city.

Thanks for the post. Definitely some folks in extreme Eastern Sask that make use of the site and are close enough to be seen by many as "honourary Manitobans." Have known others in extreme Northern North Dakota too. I assume that yourself as an example meets buyers/sellers in person like anyone else before any money or item changes hands... am sure you can respect why someone would be skeptical if someone is asking to take part in a transaction without meeting in person
