There is nothing more annoying than finding a parking spot at a grocery store that has a shopping cart that is sitting right in the middle of that spot! What is it with people that can't simply just walk it over to where the carts are suppose to be stored...I can see if it was still winter and you were parked far away but when someone just leaves it in the middle of the parking spot right beside the storage area that to me has got to be the most laziest & most ignorant thing to do....it's friggin summer for Pete sakes....if your not going to walk it over to where the carts are suppose to go then at least put the cart on the parking spot lines...then at least someone can still park in that spot!!!!

It's not summer yet for one... and two there is probably way more spots you could park. If you think it's "summer" you could also walk the extra little bit too. Not a huge deal or you know move the cart yourself if it's bugging you that much.

Spring/summer whatever...I shouldn't have to get out of my vehicle to move a stupid cart just because people are too lazy to walk it to the storage area period and I certainly shouldn't have to move to a different parking spot either period....it's called respect for other people period!!!!

Walmart, Sobey's & Safeway should have carts like Superstore and charge s $1.00 for usage....then maybe people won't be so inclined just to leave it in the middle of the parking spots....I know the Walmart in Prince Albert SK. have to pay for cart usage... I think it's time to write to the corporate office and suggest it....either that or put more cart storages in especially at Walmart.

On the north side of the parking lot at Walmart, there are no cart storage places, so carts are often left in parking spaces

Wow whole lot of anger over couple of shopping carts isn't it? It took as much effort to complain on here as it would have to just move the problem carts...period.

generally have no trouble finding an empty spot to park. Yes there are carts but there are lots of empty spaces so it doesn't take much time or effort to park. one spot is much like another.

I return carts to storage if there is one. Giant Tiger has no place to put carts. I still wouldn't deliberately leave them in a parking spot.

Was there yesterday and it was a beautiful sunny day. Carts were abandoned all over the parking lot. Really no excuse for people not to put them back.  
Have to agree with GrandmaB that it is annoying.  
As for no place at the north end to put them, what's wrong with returning them to the store? There is a large area right inside the door.  
Just plain lazy....  
and for those who don't think it's a big deal, bet you wouldn't be too happy if a gust of wind caused one of those runaway carts to ding your vehicle.

The carts in the parking lot are an issue. No disagreement.  
 
The state of cleanliness of the parking lot is not a customer issue, it's an issue with the business itself. The business selects the carts they use, decide how many cart stations there are, decide how many cart people there are and how often they collect the carts. Same thing goes for sweeping, paving, and snow clearing.  
 
If you aren't happy with the condition of the parking lot, complain to the business. Ironically, the business you are complaining about has a greeter right at the door to listen to your complaints.

Its pure lazy for people for not putting a shopping cart away. There's reason that atleast one grocery store makes a customer use a loonie to unlock the chain which the shopping cart is attached to.  
 
Equally as bad is people who blatantly dump their garbage and cigarette butts out their vehicle. Do not be the person I see doing this regardless its at my workplace or anywhere else for that matter.

Those people are just lazy, simple as that. My guess is those people on here defending the people that leave their carts out also do the same and are lazy themselves. I seldom go to Walmart just because I hate the place. Whenever possible, I just wait in the car when my wife goes in and I will watch the way people act in the parking lot. Most of the people that leave their carts there are lazy and look like they are lazy.

I would be embarrassed to just leave a cart wherever and be on my way. I guess its the way I was raised but as long as I'm physically capable, my cart goes in the corral, or at GT I take it to the front of the store. Quite often I will grab another cart or 2 on the way. It takes almost no effort and makes things easier for the next person.  
 
This touches on one of the most basic problems with our society, nobody gives a rats azz about anyone else. If I can take a moment and do something to help someone else, hold a door, whatever it might be, I do it.

If I park near a cart station I will return but if not and its just me and the kids than I move it to a corner of a spot because I'm not leaving my baby and preschooler in the car for more than a few steps especially when it's hot or cold and the car needs to be turned on right away.  
 
Also nice if I can get out of the car and there is a cart right there that somebody left in a spot so I'm not hauling two kids through a parking lot where not everybody pays attention while driving and it's often not an option to park next to a cart station.

Speaking with customer service is likely the best path to a solution.

If i park near a cart terminal I'll most definitely return the cart, however with 3 kids (ages 3 and under) there is no way I'll leave them alone in the car, nor will I drop the cart off with them and have them walk around in that horrible parking lot. But i do lift the cart over top of the rocks so it's not in cars way... and as summergal stated, it sure is handy have a cart right there when parking, so I don't have to lug kids around with the insane drivers plowing through there if i didn't have kids, I'd just park far away and walk lol

I too am guilty of leaving a cart in the parking lot because it's too cold/hot to carry my baby across to a cart coral or to leave her in the car. I'm not lazy at all, I just can't leave my child. Also, unfortunately in this day and age if a parent does leave their child in the car (even in perfect temperature conditions) for 2 minutes while they return a cart they risk being reported for it.

Yes, Moms with little ones get a pass for sure.

If all shopping carts charged $1.00 for a cart how many mom's would still leave their cart in stalls. I shop at Sobey's and it takes less than 1 minute to return a cart to the cart parking area and back to vehicle. The mall or places like Walmart that have baby parking spots. Are those just next door to cart parking? I have never heard of someone losing themselves on a mother putting a cart back. I know with my kid I was always able to put the kid in the car, lock door, return cart, come back to car. If there was the rare chance she was crying, quick explanation that the cart is to be put back weaned her off the "where did daddy go" bit. Sorry but I still say it is lazy. Maybe a service like Superstore where you click and order, park and call the store and they bring out your order. Hey that way nobody has to listen if kids start crying, parents start crying, nobody is interrupted lol.

Oh my god really? Well I can tell you that when my baby was losing there ah*t....the last thing on my mind was returning my cart! So I was defiantly leaving it behind! (I would return my cart regularly btw).... If a mom decided to return a cart leaving her young ones for just a minute....no doubt there would be a message titled "neglectful mothers leaving their children in vehicles". On this site in no time afterwards.

I never park in baby parking spots because I'd like to leave them for people who need them more than me. I often park farther away from the doors near a cart if I see one, so I hopefully don't get people who park so close to my car that I can barely/or not at all get my kids in the car, which has happened a few times before. I put my carts (we often use two) back whenever I can but some days it's just not going to happen and it has nothing to do with being lazy.  
 
I honestly don't get why people get so annoyed about this, either tell Walmart to collect carts more often or just relax. Seems like an odd thing to stress about.

Why not just leave them in the middle of the road for workers to pick up? Why the need to try and box in carts where workers can't get to half the time unless the spot is freely open. Honestly I don't care what excuse people come up with to justify leaving carts everywhere. What pisses me off is watching them roll on windy days into other peoples vehicles.

they should start finning people who think shopping carts our their own personal property when they that them home

most of the grocery stores have their shopping cart bays closer to their buildings. They need to make shopping cart bays either in the middle of the parking lot or put more bays towards the back of the parking lot.  
 
ie. costco has 2 bays, and it works well.
