Someone had info about a scam where someone out of the area wants to buy something sight unseen thru PayPal (like a vehicle). How did that work or try to go down? I couldn't find the specific thread. Asking cuz I think I know somebody who has been contacted this way

Its a scam, tell them to ignore them. They will never get the money.

It sounds like you're describing the typical online scam. There will be different variations but in general if it's someone from out of area that is buying sight unseen (even if they tell you they will see later) it is strongly recommended not proceeding with any further communication. This kind of site is intended for local in person dealings only and it should be a huge red flag when that isnt the case... even if they claim to be from the area but not available because of (insert honourable purpose here).

If it was a purchase thru ebrandon or Facebook. But it sounded very familiar to what was being described in a post I had read. Dude from down south wanted to purchase a vehicle thru PayPal and said someone will come and get it and drive it back. I told the person this was happening to to not do it. Sounded fishy and that it was a scam

Believe I have a scamster trying now
Wants an item I have in the classifieds now, but a area code of 443 (Maryland) is a little far away
Offered certified or cashier cheque as mode of payment
No reply when answered with cash upon pickup!

I wouldn't get too concerned about the area code, although it should definitely get your spidey senses tingling. I can make my number look like I am in any province or state, its not hard to do. However common sense would say you take cash for your stuff and you meet in person. If you accept PayPal or Western Union or whatever other scam payment they are using then you kind of deserve to be scammed. That's like Internet 101, even my 93 year old Grandma knows that scam, its that old!

It really shocks me to what length some will go to make a buck. Then I just remember that some people feel or get desperate and can resort to anything.

Everyone be careful.

A common one I've seen is the dating scam one. Where they pose to be interested romantically and then have you send money to foreign countries. It was featured on many shows and is very sad.

[b]NEVER[/b] accept PayPal when the buyer is picking up the merchandise. Once they have picked it up, the buyer can file a claim with PayPal saying that they never received the goods. It then becomes the seller's responsibility to prove receipt, and that's very hard to do if you didn't ship a package. So, the seller ends up with no goods and no money as PayPal will take the funds from your account and give it back to the scamming buyer.

We were contacted by test for our item here and they wanted to send a cashiers cheque or certified cheque and they were from California

Said Cash Only and must meet in person

No reply back
