Provincial election- Casino/Horse Park issue
4/22/2007 at 2:41 PM
The first discussions of the Election started on Saturday. MLA Scott Smith has not removed his head from the sand, he is still convinced that a new Casino and a new Racing facility will not attract any tourists and therefore the VLT outlets will remain capped at its present number. His only idea of saving down town Brandon is to import a First Nation Group from anywhere in North America and designate a large portion of property as an Urban Reserve to allow them to set up a Casino. I do not consider this to be “Free Enterprise”, Casino construction and operation should be open to all, with the best plan being the one that is chosen. MLA Smith has been the man in charge of Lotteries and Liquor Control, and therefore should have made the plans for the proposed Wheat City Horse Park work. His inaction has caused the loss of untold millions in construction and tourist’s dollars for the next twenty-five years
