telemarketer news

Some good news to share from today's Winnipeg Sun:
GATINEAU, Que. — The telecommunications regulator has taken the first steps toward establishing a national do-not-call list for phone-weary Canadians fed up with those pesky, unsolicited calls from telemarketers.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission says it will call for proposals later this month for bids from private, independent operators.
The CRTC says once a provider is up and running Canadians who prefer not to receive unsolicited calls will be able to add their numbers to the database free of charge.
Telemarketers will be prohibited from calling consumers who are registered with the list but the headaches won’t be all gone.
By law, there are some exemptions to the do-not-call list — including registered charities, political parties, pollsters and newspapers.
