Would like to hear opinions on these shots. I am on the fence as to whether to get them of not. My doctor recommends it to everyone, especially over 65. Any advice would be helpful.

Got mine several years ago. I have no reason to wish I didnt-i haven't had pneumonia, so maybe it is working?

if you need it when you've never had pneumonia, but I swear by it. Paid to get it 14 years ago, since I've had pneumonia many times, been hospitalized, but haven't got it after the pneumovax. Bronchitis, recently, but didn't get to the lungs, I am convinced!!

I have also had pneumonia in the past but not anymore.

How long does the pneumonia shot last? do you need to get another shot after a certain amount of years...last post said "not anymore" I was wondering about your reason...thanks

I think that they do recommend a booster shot, not sure if the time is five or ten years.  
I don't get the flu shot or pneumonia shot, but if I had to go with one it would likely be the pneumonia shot. The pneumonia shot is supposed to help with numerous bacteria that cause pneumonia.

The shot is good for 10 years? Because i had mine so young I will need another one, but I think the nurse said 10 years.

I was told that it was only needed once in a lifetime. That could be because of my age, but the doctor never said that.  
 
Anyway that was a few years ago and no problems. I’m relieved that I got one.

The question about whether a booster is needed is answered by the Canadian Immunization Guide:  
A second dose of Pneu-P-23 vaccine is recommended for individuals of any age in whom antibody response is decreased due to: functional or anatomic hyposplenia or asplenia, including sickle cell disease; chronic liver disease, including hepatic cirrhosis; chronic kidney failure or nephrotic syndrome; and immunosuppression related to disease or therapy (i.e. individuals at highest risk of IPD). If a booster dose of Pneu-P-23 vaccine is recommended, it should be administered at least 5 years after any previous dose of Pneu-P-23 vaccine.  
HSCT recipients over 2 years of age should receive a booster dose of Pneu-P-23 vaccine 1 year after the initial dose of Pneu-P-23 vaccine. Refer to Immunocompromised persons for recommendations for HSCT recipients.
