almost an oxymoron there.
It's good to call around and sometimes they can give an estimate on work needed. Some won't charge (if anything) for a short visit. I liked the fellow on Princess, I think its Dr. Smith. Tried to save me money and tell me in advance if a job would be complicated or not and priced accordingly.
