Had my cataracts done

3 years ago & got the "above & beyond" implants that let me see off into space almost. I've been wearing progressively thicker glasses for over 5 decades due to severe astigmatisms & other eye problems & decided that for the latter part of my life I was doing away with glasses for distance no matter what it cost. I saved up for them & it seems to me that I was able to use the entire cost on my income tax medical expenses deduction.
I haven't heard about the lenses that combine seeing distances then allowing you to glance down at a book - perhaps something new the past couple of years?? The problem I find is that I can't seem to get one pair of reading glasses to use for reading a paperback, playing the piano & looking at my computer screen - I have 2 different sets of reading glasses for the computer & playing piano & bought a Kindle so that I wouldn't have to be aggravated at getting reading glasses to read paperbacks!
Other than the reading part I just LOVE the implants!! It is SUCH a treat not to have the bother of glasses slipping down the nose, getting scratched if I happen to cut the grass under some trees, getting all smudged etc. My glasses were like the bottom of a champagne bottle so it's nice not to have all that pressure on my nose (especially since I suffer from chronic migraines). Just make sure you ALWAYS wear sunglasses.
Both my optometrist & Dr. Rocha agreed that getting the special implants would be a HUGE improvement for me because of the eye problems. My husband is waiting to have a cataract done right now & he's been advised that since his eye problems are minor (aside from the cataract) he can easily get away with the implants that the government pays for.
What I can't figure out is WHY the government won't allow people NEEDING the super-duper special implants to put the $900 (or whatever it is now) the province pays for towards the cost of the special implants & having the patient pay the extra. Sure would have helped because one eye cost me $1400 & the other eye $1800.
