We needed to do a bit of regular shopping for groceries yesterday evening. There were a couple things that we couldn't find, but nothing we can't live without or can source otherwise.
The traffic didn't seem to be a whole lot less, but was reduced a little. The vehicles in some parking lots were less. The line ups were actually short, even with fewer tills open.
People awkwardly walked by others, while some just whisked by, seemingly unconcerned about social distance. It is difficult to do social distancing in smaller aisles and when people don't care. Some workers seem unconcerned too...but that was very minimal. Most took it seriously.
One cashier told us that last week was crazy, but throughout this week was better. We suspect that will all pick up again today with certain cheques coming in and parents panicking because kids at home will require more food (no cafeterias). It doesn't help that the PM said this could last up to months.
We saw the greatest emptying of shelves at Superstore. Sobey's Extra & Co-op had much more food still available. As far as paper goods, there was next to nothing in spite of limits, ramen noodles gone, plain pastas mostly gone, no cheap Heinz canned beans (at SS), flour mostly gone (in some stores), frozen fruit nor frozen veg at SS, except for spinach & a bit of no name mixed veg.

I guess nobody likes those. There was lots of fresh fruits & veg. There are lots of pizzas at SS as well, and many are on sale. I would think those would be gone.
It is very interesting what people choose & how they behave when confronted with something unusual.
Thank you for trying to keep things sane on here, Adam. It must be a lot of work. It is certainly needed for balance & grounding and is appreciated. I moderate on another site (US based) and it is horrible & crazy what people are saying & doing in the US at this point. I hope we don't see quite that level locally. I can see eBrandon being a good local moderating influence in this disruptive time to so many.
