I was at walmart today and there were alot of people not social distancing while wearing their masks. People were coming right up next to me in a couple of isles reaching for stuff....no 'excuse me' nothing lol I'm wondering if people think the masks mean they dont have to social distance?

For those who can’t wear a mask or have to wear it for a long time or do a strenuous job or have glasses etc ....have you tried a face shield?

Ummmm... That's what they have been saying for months now. If you can't physically (social) distance you should be wearing a mask especially indoors....

There is plenty of room to distance in both Walmart and Superstore. Many are just using that statement as an excuse and others just don't care to even try to bother to social distance.

@sammy I have yet to get a shield because I haven't needed to go into Brandon for close to a month now. I plan to get one.

Went to Sobey's West yesterday, and it was nearly 100% masks, including all the staff except for the one collecting carts outside.

Went to Canadian Tire, and besides me there was 2 other people wearing masks, including 0% of the staff.

mandate masks who would enforce it? i didn't go thru all the posts to find this out. Police are far too busy to be chasing down people who aren't wearing masks, IMO.

I'm all for businesses to post that in order to enter you must mask up.
Except if you have a valid medical reason not to.

Big Mack....I ordered my husband one for work. It came in this week but he hasn’t been able to try it on yet. It looks a bit funny compared to a mask but he will need it to breathe easier while working.

I have glasses and fog up a bit already so I’m wondering if I should order one for myself for when winter comes! Although, I’m perfectly fine staying home all winter too LOL

I think most get that a mask is only one tool, sadly some don’t. This isn’t a black or white thing and the more the message gets out the better off we’ll all be. Based on yesterday's media briefing, sounds like further education/guidance from the province is incoming on most responsible use which has potential to help that much more.

After four pages this thread has its answer.
From today's provincial media conference, based on the Prairie Mountain Health region being elevated to 'orange' or 'restricted' status beginning Monday masks are to made mandatory at indoor public places and outdoor gatherings in Prairie Mountain Health including Brandon. Gatherings were said to have been a problem including some cases being traced to beaches and parks in Prairie Mountain and outside of Brandon. More details forthcoming from the province. Take this seriously folks, we need to get this under control.

Being out in a place like a store, restaurant. fine. Make the mask a must. But no. once I leave a building...I'm taking the mask off.

Depending on the job one does there, it can be physically demanding and make breathing through the mask hard. So there are a few tricks you can utilize.

Loosely crumple a stiff piece of paper towel, and place it below your nose, infront of your lips. This will help make a tent-like space or pocket of air that will allow for easier breathing. Especially if you need to take deep breaths from strenuous activity. Added bonus, change the paper towel every few hours (like work coffeee breaks) and your mask will not get saturated with moisture. Plus it will help keep your skin from breaking out due to months of wearing masks.

Use a bit of vapour rub or mint oil under your nose. The mint or eucalyptus oil will help open your sinuses and you can breathe much easier. It also helps keep your nose from drying out.

Wash and clean skin every night with gentle foaming face wash to keep skin clear, clean and healthy. Pimples are not uncommon due to the moisture of wearing a mask. If your skin is super sensitive, apply a bit of Vasaline to dry, clean skin of face at bedtime.

If mask rubs behind the ears and is uncomfortable, add a piece of string to ear loops and tie across back of head. If you are more creative, sew 2 buttons on the ends of a short piece of elastic and hook ear loops around those at back of head base of the skull. Girls, you can use a pretty barrette from Ardene's or even Dollarama that will be a cute fashion accessory, and use that to hook you ear loops into. (Do not use a blinged out barrette at work unless your work place approves it. May be in violation of food safe policy or safety policy depending on your job.)

If you are a hat wearer, hook the ear loops to your hat. Either hook on an adjustable band/harness (like hard hats) or attach buttons to your hat and hook the ear loops on the buttons.

If mask is too big, tie a knot in the ear loops to make the ear loops smaller.

Hope that gives some ideas or tips on trouble shooting mask issues.

If your not in a gathering, you do not have to. When I leave work (or a store, etc), if nobody is nearby, I unmask. If your getting together with your friends at a park, mask up.

I was wanting to know about exactly where to go to pick up a face shield.

Someone mentioned BNRC. What side/door or whatever do I need to go to?

The wording posted tonight on the pandemic response system section for PMH says that all residents in the area must:
“ Wear a mask in all indoor public places and at all indoor and outdoor public gatherings.”

saw a week or so ago Dollarama had face sheields next to masks...the Dollarama in the mall.

Fabricland has them too, 15 or 12 for members. You can order online and have curbside pick up so you don’t have to mask up to go in.

BNRC on Rosser has some limited stock of face shields right now (have sold more than 1600 so far). One size fits all, cost ranging from $9-12 depending on lexan and rim size. Hopeful to be in a position to increase availability further within the next week or so. BNRC hours are 9-3:30pm with visitors asked to wear a mask.

And am I making it worse for myself by having to breathe with my mouth inhaling/exhaling and more exposed possibly because of breathing through my mouth, yet without a mask I can breathe through my nose? I'm autoimmune aswell. Don't ya love aging? lol
There are people who have the right to agree or disagree with masks or vaccines, and there are people like others mentioned who can't use them or have vaccines. More people wearing masks may help in some ways...but lets not shame (either publicly or online) or judge those people who aren't wearing a mask (or in future not vaccinating) as we don't know their situation. I dont want to see this town turn into a bunch of karen's or self righteous finger pointers or our town turning violent towards others,or calling cops on someone for not wearing a mask. I don't want to see us turn into the states and their mob mentaliy. This covid stuff is making some people really mean. The way that one pregnant lady experienced someone spitting at her and yelling at her in the paking lot was uncalled for and that person should have been talked to by the cops at least. They had no right to freak out on her. Things might be abit more rough with cold and flu season coming up, and we will need to be more careful and yet not become paranoid or live in fear of every person who has a sniffle (sinus issues, allergies, summer colds, bronchitis these things didn't dissapear just cuz' covid showed up). Just do the best you can, and for those who just throw their masks on the ground...there are garbage cans, or at least put it in a ziplock bag and then throw it out at the nearest garbage can...is it really gonna kill you to do that? Or should the person who has to pick that up risk their life (or their family) cuz' you're being a lazy a**?

No I haven't tried a mask like that with a valve.
