so many conferences reporters keep saying rural people don't follow the public health rules for preventing covid-19.  
 
that is not true. Dr. even said this. And pointed out at the start 2/3 cases were Winnipeg.  
 
just grates my nervous when especially this one reporter keeps pointing this out.

Winnipeg might have 2/3 of the cases, but it also has 3/4 of the population in a relatively dense area. So there's that.  
 
If you did the math, I'm sure the number per 100,000 population would be very different. We also have the large clusters so far, compared to Winnipeg which so far as been mostly travel-related.  
 
So they're kinda right.

I guess it depends on how rural and urban is defined. I always thought Brandon was urban, but if Brandon is rural then the reporter is correct

If you ask a Brandonite, we'll say we're urban.  
 
 
If you ask a Winnipegger, we're rural. As is any other city in this province besides Winnipeg. I had someone freak out on Twitter once because Portage was referred to as a city.  
 
Um, yeah. It's called the City of Portage la Prairie.

But I thought that we were all in this together and that we were supposed to work together to reduce the spread and beat this virus.

Brandon is definitely rural, not urban and never will be.

Using Statistics Canada's census definition, an urban area is defined as an area with a population of at least 1,000 and a population density of at least 400 per square kilometre. All areas outside urban areas are classified as rural areas.

So you are sick of it....so what are you going to do about it? You know what I'm sick of are people who complain but do nothing to change the situation. Send the editor or manager an email. Demand the reporter either cease in stating what you believe to be baseless claims or cite the evidence to back up their statements. Do you want the news or merely someone's opinion or interpretation? Write an open letter to the editor or even a sound off. Trust me, even if nothing changes, you'll feel better for at least trying.

the real story on CTV news was the survey was of the whole prairie Manitoba, Sask and Alberta. which includes all cities including Winnipeg

Hmm...but surveys are always flawed and usually biased. I take a lit of surveys & this is made very clear by how they phrase the questions, how they repeat exact questions, how they rephrase questions & how they give narrow answers to choose from. They always miss the details. And to top it off, the answers given depend on a person's comprehension level & how they perceive the question in the first place. Then there is politics & a bias depending on who commissioned the survey. This often determines the outcome before the results are tallied.  
 
Rural people. City people. City people have a different philosophy & mindset than rural people. Brandon, Winkler, Portage and certainly Wpg...yes, they all have that mentality that is very different from rural communities.  
 
Rural people often won't need to social distance the majority of the time when out alone in their field or whatever. This will affect how some will answer questions related to these rules. There are other factors too.  
 
Pick these things apart. Don't just see them at face value like some news outlets like to do. Some others like to spin the results.

to the provincial government any town outside of winnipeg is considered rural. during tax time as an example to get the extra rebate for climate, you are asked do you live rural or in winnipeg.

If I remember correctly, you are asked if you live within the bounds of the Winnipeg metropolitan census area, or outside it. I believe the area is within 100 km of Winnipeg, which we're definitely outside of.
