Starting as it’s own thread because of importance and need for separate discussion.

As per the e:mbed below, the Prairie Mountain Health Region and all regions in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg will beginning Nov 2 be elevated to Orange/Restricted status (Winnipeg region itself goes to ‘Red’)

Please see below for what that means:

So the Manitoba Government allows an extra 3 days of superspreading by making a statement this morning and not enforcing it til Monday! Do you think the personnel care homes and overworked hospital staff need 3 more days of Covid party goers and spreaders? Ridiculous. You will never stop this disease with that mentality. Worried about the economy? Dead people don’t go shopping!

At the start of this pandemic they were making changes to recommendations and expecting it to be done right away. However a number of complaints were received that this was impossible. People asked for time to put restrictions in place.
That is why they say restrictions to be in place on Monday.

Guess Public Heath can’t win either way. People criticize one way or the other.

Having said that you do not have to wait until Monday. Start now!

You have to click through to the backgrounder to see that it's mandatory for indoor spaces. It was already in effect for Winnipeg Metropolitan, so they didn't re-specify that one.

need time to figure out what they need to in terms of staff and their business in order to comply.

In reality, if the public were doing what they should be doing to protect themselves and others, none of this would be required.

It wouldn’t have to be this way if we would all do what we are asked to. I’ve continued to wear a mask everywhere even when we were at yellow. The problem lies in people making wrong decisions. We seem so ‘entitled’ as a society. Feel sick? Don’t go to work. Don’t lie. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t celebrate Thanksgiving. We all want to get back to some sort of norm but it will only happen if we all band together. Letting this virus run rampant is NOT an option. Herd immunity is not going to happen this way. All we would do is kill off our healthcare system. Doctors and nurses don’t grow on trees. Wear a mask, wash hands, and for goodness sake start making better decisions.

Agree 100% with Triple Threat. Well said with common sense approach. Like I stated in a previous post look and see what countries who are winning the Covid battle do. Covid will never ever go away the way we are doing it. Never! Be grateful that we can at least go outside. The Bubonic plague didn’t afford that luxury. What’s stopping this pandemic from morphing into something that can never be stopped. The longer we wait for a vaccine wonder drug the worse this could get . No one likes being in the mess we are in but you can’t just blink this away. I don’t think the scientists and doctors even have a clue how to stop this. That’s just my opinion. It is what it is. Again until you know someone who has died from this you have a tendency to be complacent. I’m no longer complacent. We have to beat this ourselves.

We need to learn to live with this because it's unlikely to go away. That means that society may fundamentally need to change - the way we socialize, the way we conduct business and shop, the way we educate, how we spend our leisure time, even the way we define things like "rights" and "responsibilities" ("fundamentals"?)... very few things are going to be left untouched. And really, that's okay. Societies change all the time, this just happens to be a period of very rapid change in a very short interval of time.

The problem, from my armchair, is that while a good number of people seem to understand that, there's not insignificant number of people who don't want to change. They continue their old patterns of socializing and consumption. The continue the old ideas about priorities and power. The powers-that-be want to economy to continue as it did instead of looking to transform it into something else. We tend to be creatures of habit, both as individuals and as a collective.

The plague ultimately facilitated the end of serfdom in Europe, and with it feudalism collapsed and paved the way for the Reformation and the Enlightenment. It reshaped Europe, and by extension the places in the world which it touched during Colonization, which brings us to now.

I suspect Covid has the potential to have such a broad-reaching and substantial impact on our world as the plague did. We can chose to have a measure of control on what those transformations look like, or we can refuse to change and it will change anyway without our consent.

Winnipeg gets sick and Brandon receives the suppository for it to get better! Thanks Sickipeg! We're holding our own, but no... The ones that are shortsighted and inflicted with perimeteritice & fear decide that if they're in trouble, everyone else must be in trouble. Just paint the rest of the province "orange" with that broad brush. Such crap! The fallout is already started happening today. My youngest is saying that they're changing the classroom situation because of orange, so now, they're doing classes in the library until further notice and gym (including intramurals) will probably get suspended. I can pretty much predict that the High School will be switching over to full remote learning, which doesn't work well with my one teen. Can't wait to get the emails coming in one by one, this weekend, with all the club sport programs getting postponed or worse. I can't be the only one feeling the undeserving disaster about to wash over of what I thought was a stable life, here in Brandon. I don't believe we should be brought to orange unless there's proof of a growing threat of the COVID infection within our city. Dammit! What a week. First the Sportsplex and the City messing up another season for the Bluefins and Masters Swim clubs. Now, I'm getting the impression that we're probably going to loose everything that remains sport related for our kids this winter. All the while having my teens sitting on their @$$es, slacking off on their schoolwork. And topping it off, the youngest will be miserable and resentful against the others because he has to go to school without a classroom and no physical activities. Merry Christmas. *sarcasm*

Just my opinion, I had to vent, I could be wrong.

We are not holding our own outside of Winnipeg. There are confirmed covid cases in our smallest towns, and that’s the problem and why we have moved to orange status and will soon move to red.

This is not just about Winnipeg, this is about flattening the curve and trying to keep our hospitals functioning as normal as possible. With Winnipeg hospitals' ICUs at over 90% capacity, the next step will be to start transferring patients throughout the province. That means our hospital will soon not be equipped to accept covid or any other patients (heart attack, stroke, etc.) into the ICU here as it will be full.

You, and everyone else, needs to start looking at the big picture instead of how this will just affect you and your child's sports programme. People are dying at a rapid rate and it is getting worse every day.

But don't worry everyone.....we will still be able to infect countless people in our community by continuing with our kids' trick or treating before the restrictions take place Monday.

I'm sorry but this has to be the most ignorant post I have seen here on this topic and that says it all. There are people in the states who are waiting in excess of 6 hours for a bag of food to feed their children and you rant about your children's lives being in an upheaval over intramurals? Please think before you speak. Please.

This is a time for unity, for rallying around what’s asked of us and despite any questions one might have on any individual/isolated aspect of the Covid response over the past 7+ months knowing our role and putting trust in the medical professionals and decision-makers tasked with guiding during these serious times.

This isn’t only a Winnipeg story. What a lot of folks following the daily media briefings might not realize is that Prairie Mountain Health’s reported total number of cases on the dashboard has increased by 43 over the past eight days. You’d have to back to August (the last time we were in Orange) for the last time you could say the same thing. We’ve seen more notices show up not just in Brandon but around Westman on the provincial exposures page, another sign that the virus is in increasing circulation here too.

Covid has on many occasions on this planet shown what it’s capable of when it reaches and pushes through a tipping point when it comes to medical system capacity. As Winnipeg’s capacity gets to razor-thin levels, as mentioned above it potentially effects our capacity without even considering what happens if PMH cases continue on their same trend without extra pushback.

Brandon isn’t an island in PMH, and PMH not one within Manitoba... we’re all connected and it’s time to pull our socks up. We’ve already shown once how difficult of an environment we can make Westman for this virus when asked to increase our response and there’s no reason to think we can’t do it again!

Just speaking further to prev point re Brandon...
in today's (Oct 31) data, Brandon's total case count is up by seven. That represents to biggest single-day increase in that number since August 31 when it went up by 12. This is not just a Winnipeg thing.

Congratulations, you're wrong. You seem furious about the sports situation but only annoyed by the education, check your priorities.

As per the public notice, issues with the Sportsplex pool go back to the 2016 renovations. The same thing happened with the track: it was redone 2016(?) and this October the track was closed and another contractor was brought in to try and fix a job that wasn't done properly the first time. Blaming 'The Sportsplex' for your inconvenience and the waste of taxpayer's money is absurd, you can thank previous managers and the City's "lowest bid no matter the real cost because otherwise the taxpayers shriek to the heavens" mentality.

I spend a lot of time at the Sportsplex (Not so much this year) and personally seeing how people conduct themselves there despite policies put in place for the safety of everyone makes me suspect it's just a matter of time before there's an exposure there. A Grade 11 kid at Vincent Massey was infected, was he on the hockey team that plays and practices there? How many hockey parents are going to tell themselves its just a cold and tell their kid to power through and play so they're not 'sitting on their @$$es'?

Good luck to the responsible people and workers there doing their best to keep one another safe. With the entitled attitudes people in this community have, they're going to need it.
