I signed up with a local pharmacy to receive a notification when I can get the Covid vaccine. I am not in any group that is eligible right now, but I have received an email fom them requesting that I book an appointment to get the vaccine, with appointments available starting March 15. Has something changed that vaccines will be available through pharmacies soon? And why would it request i book an appointment when I am younger than the ages that qualify currently?

Can't speak to eligibility, but the AstraZeneca vaccine has different shipping and storage requirements that allow it to be used in pharmacies and doc offices.  
 
From the release below from Friday:  
"The first doses of the AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine are expected to arrive in Manitoba next week and will then be distributed to participating medical clinics and pharmacies. The province is recommending this vaccine be provided to adults aged 50 to 64 years, with priority given to those at increased risk of experiencing serious outcomes. It is important to note that appointments cannot be booked at this time. Additional information about those who should receive this vaccine and the process to book an appointment will be provided in the coming days. "

Good information, thanks. Though they are allowing one to make an appointment, regardless of whether one fits the requirements or not, so that's odd.

was told there is a vaccine coming from here in Canada that isn't mRNA but still protects you from covid. Any one know anything about who is making that one?

Everyone needs to get the vaccine. The sooner the better. Of course we all want the most vulnerable done first but no system will ever be perfect. If they contacted you and you can take the vaccine I would.  
 
By the way on the National tonight they reported the AstraZeneca vaccine from pharmacies was suppose to be for those between 60 - 64.

Covidsux - Adam's post includes info and links about the vaccines. The AstraZenica vaccine is not an mRNA vaccine.  
 
BigMack - As per the info in Adam's post, the AstraZenica vaccine is for people from 50-64. I hope the National didn't get the age wrong!

Curly - they must of. I backed it up and watched again to make sure they said pharmacies are vaccinating age group 60 - 64. Not a big deal the rules and info are conflicting and changing daily. One person saying one thing then it's something different who knows. Don't wear a mask then wear 2 masks. WHO says not to wear a mask when exercising as it restricts breathing but CDC and some researchers say it does not have an effect on breathing. Like I said if they offered the vaccine and you can take it I suggest taking sooner than later.

My sister (a nurse in Winnipeg) told me about this site that has a form you can fill out to get notified when you are eligible to book an appointment for your vaccination.

Looks like there are 6 pharmacies in Brandon that you can phone to book an appointment for the astra Zeneca vaccine (if you are eligible). Just search Manitoba COVID-19 vaccine finder to see the pharmacies that have vaccine available

Not on the map will also be giving shots. The ones on the map are just the places receiving vaccines from this shipment, not all places received vaccines this time around.

Happy to hear you’re getting an appointment right away, that’s the beauty of getting pharmacies and clinics involved with the AZ vaccine, so people who need it the most can receive it!

Not enough people in the risk groups are calling the pharmacy, if you check the map the red dots are all the medical clinics and they are all calling all their high risk patients - priority ones-  
in Brandon, Souris, Virden in for vaccines so maybe that’s why you got an appointment. : so you must have fit in the age requirement or you would not have an appoint.  
 
Pharmacies have to follow rules too they won’t chance losing their vaccine privileges.  
Also there is an expiry date on some of batches of these vaccines of April 1 so they need to get them in the arms now.

PrincessFred, a month ago nobody knew how the vaccines would be rolled out, who would get a supply or when, or who would be given priority. Heck, the AstraZenica vaccine wasn't even approved last month for use in Canada. So the default answer would have had to be no.

I had signed to be notified for when I would be eligible for the vaccine. I selected that I was front line essential (my job was one of the examples). I received an email the next day saying I could book an appointment, I did but later asked the pharmacy why I got this because I'm currently not Eligible. I was told because I am front line essential. Though my job position is currently not Eligible, I cancelled so someone in the priority group could have my dose.
