I am looking for a place for my father that has care for him. What place would you recommend? He needs help dressing, going to washroom, etc. as he is partially paralyzed. I was thinking maybe Rideau Park or Fairview. I also have heard that Daughter-on-call have rooms available. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

From experience with my mom and brother having been in care, I would suggest Rideau Personnel Care Home..will pm.you.

I have to comment that I hope you understand that there is a long process for getting a loved one into a care home. My personal experience was at least a year.  
I strongly suggest you tour every care home and ask questions. Lots of questions. Make a list before you go.  
You may not always get your first choice of care home. I toured 4 of 5 offered. I had no interest in the 5th. I took the first bed available...in my 4th choice. In the end it was my best choice. I have had the opportunity to move my loved one to 3 others. My 4th choice has been a God sent for my loved one. They receive amazing care from staff, director's have stepped up to help me with doctor's. I could not ask for a better situation.  
This is not an easy situation or decision to make. I hope that you do your homework. Do it knowing there is a process that must be followed. Home care and doctor's paperwork, panelling processes. It isn't just a matter of picking a place and "admitting" your loved one.  
I am not trying to be harsh just realistic.

curious why we don't take care of our elderly like other cultures? I know there are some cases like dementia where it's best for their safety, but why do we just put them in homes? If someone has room for a elderly parent, or can make room in their home why not just have home care come if needed and take care of them ourselves? They took care of us.

There are several choices in brandon. Things to consider are if they will be okay sharing a room or not. Very few homes have only single rooms, Rideau is one of them. Also check out the activities and meals. Working in LTC in a few places and knowing other people at other places meals and activities are the main things and unfortunately larger places the food quality is slightly less because of the number. Also I hope your ready for a lot of changes and hard decisions

at home. He was hospitalized for five months and of course the doctor was pushing for a PCH. We said that as long as dad could walk he was coming home! Despite a PCH home being 5 blocks from our home we couldn't stand the thought of him living so close buy yet so far away.  
Maybe we feel this way because of our native heritage. But I do know how special both my parents were to me.  
And I'm not saying that any one who puts their parent in PCH do not love their parent. Every situation is different.  
But I wish more would try to keep parents home with them

Dinsdale has single rooms also..

Lots of places have a few single rooms. I wasn’t sure if dinsdale had ONLY single rooms. Can you confirm this ? Where as that is all Rideau has.

Has only single rooms..my dad was a resident there..
