michyme said "Mental Wellness is so important, and I don't feel that there are enough services or support in Brandon for individuals who need help learning how to navigate through their mental health journey. I've got some ideas that I've been doing some research on, and it would be nice to get some feedback from others who have had or know someone who has had difficulties accessing help, and if others besides me has seen the gap with mental health services in Brandon. Thanks in advance for your feedback! "
I've been doing my own research as well and there has been an amazing increase in our understanding of human behaviour and what is involved in mental wellness. The problem is that it takes decades before that research finds its way into the therapists office or into mainstream understanding of mental health. People in general are still too embarrassed to talk about their mental health. It is viewed as a weakness. Yet it is the best thing we can do for ourselves and our relationships. To acknowledge you need help or to seek out help shows strength of character.
Covid showed the cracks we have in the society around mental health. If people had better mental health before covid, maybe they could have handled it better from a mental health perspective.
It is important to talk about mental health and not shy away from it. So thank you to OP for starting this discussion.
