Does anyone feel like they have to take out a loan just to see a dentist?? Some places don't direct bill an insurance company you need to pay for everything up front. I'm sorry I don't have $800 for just a check-up (with xrays) and then when work is needed and you find out that you need to pay $1500 more than what your insurance covers per tooth?? Who has that kind of money?? No wonder nobody can go to the dentist. I was calling to see if they had a payment plan if I needed it. They just said "we need your credit card on file to direct bill. "... what if you don't have a credit card?? I guess the dentist is now just for the wealthy and privileged, the rest of us will just be in pain.

Make sure you vote at the next election, this will certainly be a federal election issue.

With luck. The NDP ate fighting for it. And what are the other options might I ask??

change your dentist. mine doesn't charge me anything until after they get what my insurance company is paying.

Yes please who is you dentist and.. do they accept all insurance carriers???

I just went to my dentist. Had a full exam, with full x-rays, and a cleaning. Under $350.  
 
No way it is $800 for a checkup with X-rays....

There is a federal dental plan already.  
 
The problem in Brandon is that dentists are not signing up for it.  
 
When I was going to school in the ( dark ages), Dentist would come to school and children would have a check up.

All dentists are now enrolled. They just use the card you received like any other employee offered insurance card.

My last check up came to $950 before my insurance. I paid just under $200. I don't know what I would have done if I had to pay the $950 up front. I would have a heart attack.  
Buying my medication is bad enough. Some of my pres:cription medication is not covered under pharmacare and they cost about $100+ a month. Before my insurance kicked in I was spending about $300 a month just on meds.  
When my pharmacare deductible resets I can spend $1200 in one month on meds if I didn't have insurance
