Just QUIT already...........................
2/5/2009 at 6:03 PM
I figured this would be something good to discuss considering everyone is talking about the new smoking legislation.
For those who are asking what to use to quit..... and even for those who aren't lol
I tried to quit several times and failed each time with in a day or two. I have almost zero will power!
I have tried patches, gum, a nicotine inhaler even acupuncture (I wanted a cigarette even more after I left my first session!)......I never tried hypnotism! has that actually worked for anyone??
Then I discovered CHAMPIX they are fantastic it will cost about $120 a month and you are supposed to take them for 3 months (I only took them for 2 months) They aren't covered by insurance plans but my employer paid a contribution to the pills as they are covered under a program at work! I was skeptical at first due to all of my previous failed attempts and the fact that they are so much more expensive than any other method I had tried however my sister in-law quit after 25 years of smoking using CHAMPIX so I figured it was worth a shot.
The first week the doctor advises you still smoke while taking the pills to let them work their way into your system (for the first week you only take half the dose as a full dose right off the bat would make you sick) some people actually stop smoking with in the first couple of days because the pills really turn you off from smoking. In the first week or so you may have some crazy dreams/nightmares but they will pass. If they don't go see your doctor!
Some people will feel sick after taking the pill however i found that eating some toast and a glass of milk suppressed the sickness. Again speak to the Doc if you feel overly nauseous from them.
I can honestly say I don't even think about smoking anymore it's been about 6 months now. I hate the smell of smoke and love not having to go stand outside in -40 to have a smoke.
I encourage anyone thinking of quitting to try CHAMPIX it really works a few other people at my work place have used the pills and are now "NON-SMOKERS" also. Lots of people comment that the price of the pills is to high but the rational behind using them is this......
Lets say you smoke a pack a day. A pack is roughly $11 over 28 days (1 month) $308 compare that to $120 for 1 month supply of pills you are already saving money. In fact if you continue the course of pills for the recommended 3 months its only going to cost you $52 more for 3 moths of pills than it would have cost you for just 1 months worth of cigarettes and then think of how much you save over a year after you have finished the pills....... $4015 think of the things you could treat yourself to!!!
So I hope this has helped people out there who are interested in quitting but have gave up on gums and patches. And if this has inspired someone who wasn't thinking of quitting but now you are the please post it on here.
Good luck if you going to give it a try
