Manitoba’s first case of H1N1 flu has been reported.
The elementary school-aged girl, who had a mild case of the virus also known as swine flu, lives in the Brandon Regional Health Authority area and attends Brandon’s Riverheights School.
During a press conference this afternoon, provincial health officials said the girl travelled to Mexico, the U.S. and B.C. in mid to late April, but did not require hospitalization.
Brandon's regional officer of health said there was no need to close her school, but public health staff will visit the school Monday to discuss the flu with staff, parents and students.
There have been no reports of severe respiratory illness resutling from H1N1 flu in Manitoba and no other confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in the province.
