Cure for Sunburn
5/28/2009 at 11:05 AM
Well its not really a cure, but its one heck of a treatment!
I got burnt pretty badly last friday, like really lobster burnt skin like KFC.
Being a fire juggler, I had a little experience and some equipment for burns, so I went to work.
First I used this Burn Cream called J.R Watkins. I use it because it has the highest amount Lidocaine anesthetic (2.25%) I could find in a non-perscription along with Aloe Vera. Then I put this Webbers pure vitamin E Cream on me. I looked oily but it did some wonders. I alternated a bit but fell asleep with the Vitamen E cream on my face.
I also flooded my system with anti-oxidents like Vitamen C, Co-Q10 (Co Enzyme Q-10), ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid, used in diabetes but also a potent anti-oxidant), and of course the Vitamin E. I did this because Sunburn is like a low grade radiation burn so anti-oxidants can really reduce the damage. A mix is best because no one anti-oxidant can neutralize all free radicals causing damage, different keys for different doors.
I took 2 grams of vitamin C divided into 4 500mg doses throughout a 6 hour period. 60mg of CO-Q10 divided into 2 30mg doses. One 100mg dose of ALA in the beginning (Don't take too much, it can mess with your blood glucose levels). I took all of these things with a little bit of food, especially CO-Q10 and ALA cause they need some essential fats to work properly, bread and butter would be enough.
Hope this is helpful for anyone, it certainly was for me! I've had minimal peeling since then and instead of getting worse the day after as is my pattern, I started feeling better!
Any other suggestions would be good. I know I left Selenium off the list of anti-oxidants, but I took a multi-vitamin so I figured that would cover it.
