painful cramps in legs and feet

Periodically I experience leg and/or foot cramps. Usually at night while in bed.
These cramps have been incredibly painful!
I jump out of bed looking for ease. Ran hot tubs of water for therapy. Toes have curled upward! Cramps across the foot.
They are not simultaneous, the cramps vary...and there is no rhyme or reason regarding activity that I can think of.
Does anyone else experience this type of cramp? What do you do?
They do fade away eventually....but oh so painful.
