Endometriosis
5/2/2007 at 8:49 AM
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is also found elsewhere in the body, mainly in the abdominal cavity. It can be found in caecarian-section scars, laparoscopy or laparotomy scars, and on the bladder, bowel, intestines, colon, appendix, and rectum. It causes many problems for women which suffer from this disease. Severe pain, infertility, heavy or irregular bleeding,fatigue...and endometriosis may cause bowel disturbances. There is no cure, only treatments. You can be medically treated(chemically), surgically "cleaned up"(D&C's), complete hysterectomy's seem to be the final resort. Symptoms vary: before/during/after menstruation
during ovulation
in the bowel during menstruation
when passing urine
during or after sexual intercourse
in the lower back region
diarrhoea or constipation (in particular in connection with menstruation)
abdominal bloating (again, in connection with menstruation)
heavy or irregular bleeding
fatigue
If anyone has any questions or concerns, your physician will be able to help.
I am just enlightening SOME, because it was this time 5 years ago I was diagnosed with it. I have had laparoscopic (quite a few) surgeries, many trips to the ER and have been a med guinea pig as a result. Awareness to young people is crucial in treatment.
