severity

It really depends on severity - I had an attack that required a trip to the ER because it was so bad, and we didn't know what it was, only a month or two after I had a baby. I was referred to a surgeon after, given medication (T3s) to deal with pains if I had an attack, and adhered to a very strict diet to prevent attacks. The plan was to wait 6-8 weeks for a consult and then be put on the list for removal expecting the wait for that to be 6 months or so.
I continued to have attacks every day no matter what I ate - even just water seemed to set it off. The second really bad attack was a week or so later and I stayed overnight in the hospital. Next day I had an appointment with the same surgeon I was going to wait 6 weeks to see, and he had me wheeled into surgery about 10 minutes after the appointment.
It can go really quickly if it is extremely bad and can't be managed with medication and diet. I am so sorry for those who have to wait, the pain is unimaginable. I had just had a baby a few weeks before so I was not exaggerating when I said it was much worse than labor - it WAS much worse, and went on for hours without any relief from the intensity. People should not have to suffer like that for any length of time. Good luck to you!
