Hello,  
 
I have been without a doctor since reaching the age of majority. Recent health issues have made it necessary for me to find a doctor who can track my progress over a period of time rather than going to different walk-in clinics.  
 
Does anyone know of any Dr's or clinics in town that are accepting new patients?  
 
I phoned Wheat City Medical Clinic to ask the receptionist if they knew if the doctors were accepting new patients. She told me that I would have to come in as a walk-in and then ask the doctor if he would be my doctor.  
 
I seriously hope that's not how this system works because I think I could very reasonably spend a whole day waiting on doctors and asking them to be my doctor and be denied by all.  
 
Can someone please point me in the right direction?

They have just moved into a brand new building and I know they have some new doctors on staff now.

I would call both Brandon Clinic and Western Medical Clinic and ask if anyone is accepting. They usually do, or will advise you of when a new Dr is coming.

They are right across from the university, I was told the same thing to come in and they see if they wanted to take me on. Kinda seemed strange but they did, I never wait long for an appointment, both dr there are great.

Hopefully everyone doesn't say typical ebrandon attitude, but I do find it strange that you express concern over having to wait to see a doctor, and then say that your going to have to be watched over a period of time, which means an investment of time by the doctor. If your health issues are a concern you will have to wait during the whole process, you may have to wait to see the doctor, you may have to wait to have tests done, you may have to wait on results, you may have to wait to see a specialist, you may have to wait for treatment or for treatment to work. The interesting thing is by sometimes being in a hurry, you miss out on doctors who are really great doctors, and would be willing to take you on.

I'm not speaking about waiting a day for treatment. I was referring to what the receptionist told me about asking a doctor to be my family doctor during a walk-in visit.  
 
The point was that if I had to visit a doctor to see if they can take me on then what happens if the doctor denies me? Can the doctor even deny? I would imagine so since it would be destructive to create more work for doctors who already have a large patient base. Then I would have to visit multiple doctors in a day and spend a lot of waiting JUST to get a family doctor. Not for results or a diagnosis.  
 
That point is now somewhat moot thanks to the responses in this thread.

Doctors are human,and it doesn't matter if it's a doctor that has a full patient schedule or a new doctor with very few patients, if they feel comfortable with you, and maybe your condition,they will likely become your family doctors, and might even ask if you have or need a family doctor, but even a new doctor does not have to take anyone on. Now I could be wrong on that point, but observation and experience says not.

The Manitoba government has a family doctor finder set up  
You can either go online or phone the 1 800 number and they get back to you within a few days with the name of a doctor accepting new patients  
It's how I found a doctor for my family of 5 they got back to me within 2 days

I know for a fact Western Medical Clinic is. I seen it on their facebook and am doctoring with a great new doctor there now Dr. Stevenson.

Clinic has a new doctor. Dr. Turner (female.. if that matters or not)  
I have seen her a few times now and i like her, she is younger so will be around for quite some time.  
 
I heard that her husband is a specialist and therefore i would think they will be staying in brandon.  
 
That was important for me when looking for a new doctor.  
 
apts are being made into december for her i believe. I suggest going to meet her yourself and see what you think, everyone is different.

At Brandon clinic are still accepting and they are wonderful! Plus they have a lab and X-ray! Everyone is so friendly there

Meredith Medical is accepting patients if u want a female provider  
She is a PA and she is fantastic!!
