I am hoping one of you ebrandoners can help me out with a bit of advise. Sometime in the near future my mom will need assistance with everyday living, in and out of bed in her wheel chair, bathroom, bathing etc. Ideally It would be great if should remain at home and have someone come in(as my senior dad would be lost without her), but we are being realistic and understand she may have to be in some type of care home or facility. How do you go about 1. finding out what level of care is required and 2. what our options are. 3. who to contact. Thanks!  

Thankfully Manitoba agrees that it's best to keep Mom at home as long aspossible.  
 
You can find out a lot of info about home care and about pch on the Manitoba health website.  
 
When your Mom needs more care than your family can provide, call thehome care intake line at 578-2339.  
 
That is the same starting point for eventually getting to personal care home.

Until the time that you are certain that your mother needs to be in a care home, I can recommend an amazing company that can help with some of the ADLs (activities of daily living) that your Mom requires assistance with.

Your family doctor is the place to start! If you feel this is something you want and can afford then there is private home care you could seek out on your own I believe.  
 
For home care I believe your family doctor can start the process and get you in touch with them. They will let you know what they offer and can assist with etc. Then they start talking to you when they also feel a care home is on the horizon. Work with you to find one you like and get on waiting lists. Arrange tours. Etc  
 
My mom had home care in her own home for a couple years until recently. She wanted to stay home as long as possible. Home care helped to tell her when the time was now. They pretty much took care of most of the process. And from the time my mom signed the paper with home care she was in a care home in a couple weeks.. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and the help you feel she needs I believe it is them that get the ball rolling for you. There may be other ways but this is how it worked for us. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. Just went through this myself and my mom was only 63...

There are many private agencies in town that you can hire or you can call the Brandon Home Care office through Prairie Mountain Health (government/free) and ask for an assessment of your Mom's need. The Home Care office also is responsible for Personal Care Home applications so can also ask about that.
