Has anyone's children had this. How was it diagnosed and how was it fixed

My second child was tongue tied. He had it snipped while we were still in the hospital and we've never had any issues.

Was told mine doesn't have it but I'd like to get a second opinion just don't know where to go

Depending on the age of your child and severity of the tongue and/or lip tie, your family doctor should refer you to a pediatrician and he will determine whether it needs to be clipped (if it is severe enough that it is effecting your child's eating (especially nursing) and/or speech when they become older).

There are different severities of tongue ties.  
Was it a pediatrician or a family doctor that told you it wasn't tied? If it was a family doctor, you could always go to the walk-in and ask for a second opinion or to be referred to a pediatrician.

Was a midwife that said my baby didn't have it but I'd like a second opinion but know I need to be referred to a ped just don't know how to go about that. Feeding r an issue right now (2 weeks old)

Not all pediatricians require a referral for all problems. You can call and make an appointment with Dr Ayinde without a referral. I'm not sure if Dr Elves requires a referral for everything, but you could also call and ask his office. Another option for a second opinion could be the lactation consultant at the hospital, or even a public health nurse - they might be able to help with feeding issues as well, whether due to tongue tie or not. Your dentist can tell you if you are tongue tied and recommend if you should leave it or fix it. As an adult that's had no issues mine has been left alone. If your child is tongue tied they can do something while they are young.

Can anyone recommend a Brandon dentist that can snip lip and tongue ties? Not all dentists do this procedure.

Daughter was tongue tied and I think it was doctor groves who snipped it. I don't know if that is why but she had some difficulties with several letters. She is in grade 2 now and with speech she is much better

Call Dr. Pappas' office and ask. Not sure if does it himself or refers you to someone.

We also suspected younger tie right from the beginning but our midwife said there wasn't one. Breast feeding was excruciating as well as non stop. We ended up joining a Facebook support group for mothers of babies with this and they had a list of perfered providers that deal with this. So we went to brandon and low and behold he had both lip and tounge with the tounge being severe. She clipped them that day and I fed him right after and noticed a difference right away. The dr was Dr. Roberta knowat who is a dentist. Be prepared to pay though as most insurance doesn't cover it. I think we paid just under 500

Sorry I don't but if you search on face book for the group call tounge tied babies support they will have it. Dr krowat was the only one on the whole list for mb. She was an amazing supporter and was beyond knowledgeable about further complications that tounge ties cause

I was told to see a dentist. Look for someone who would do it with a laser

Anyone else have to pay to have it fixed

My 2nd child had a slight lip tie and tongue tie. It made breastfeeding excruciating. i would scream every time she latched. Yet I was stubborn and did not have it clipped. I endured six months of nursing and then she moved to a bottle. The whole time we did midwife-taught "stretches" for her tongue. Really if you're not nursing, it won't affect their life to have it.

There are many more complications other then just breast feeding that tounge ties cause. We are now dealing with our 4 year old who has speech problems because of it. I also have one and now that we know I have it Dr krowat (who is a dentist) says that's what probably caused all my jaw issues which led to jaw surgery (severe tmj) seem kids also have problems eating later on it life and with lip ties it can cause the gap between your front teeth as well as decay as food gets caught under the lip. Trust me, I did hours of research before getting my youngest sons clipped as I didn't know this was even a thing with my oldest

A friend of mine had the same issue with her little one. The pediatrician clipped an anterior tongue tie but he missed a posterior tongue tie and severe lip tie.  
 
Dr. Krawat provided exceptional care. She took the time to explain the procedures and the exercises required afterwards.

Good luck, mama! Breastfeeding is worth the perseverance. I dealt with intense breastfeeding pain for a couple months until my son's public health nurse suggested he/we might have thrush. After a week or so of Dr. Newman's candida protocol I was 100% pain-free. The midwife and doctor both missed it because the typical visible symptoms weren''t present. Keep asking questions until you find a solution that works! Good luck!!

Doglover- have you tried calling the lactation consultants at the hospital? They helped me out. There is also other nurses you can call to get help. I'm not at home right now to put the phone numbers on here for you buy if you are interested I can get them for you. Just let me know!!!

No I haven't seen a lactation consultant my midwife figures it's a supply issue I really want a second opinion and to make a good go of this i would love numbers thanks!

My midwife noticed a tongue tie with my daughter and she called the ped on call at the hospital....can't remember his name but I think he comes in from Winnipeg....we got in the same day and had it cut.

Who did u seen in Brandon that diagnosed the problem and did u have it done in Brandon

Doglover- I'm sorry I totally forgot to get those #'s for you. Lactation consultant her name is Susan. 578-4286. She is awesome and helped me a lot. There is also a breastfeeding help line 24hrs/7 days 1-204-788-8667 or 1-888-315-9257. There is also a la leche league for sessions or phone help 571-0784. But they are all there to help. I've even gone in and seen the lactation consultant for help.

Know anyone in Brandon that fixes ties with a laser

A Speech Pathologist could help you with your 2nd opinion, but not clipping if needed.
