So I have an odd question. Guys may not want to read through this thread haha.  
I recently stopped taking birth control, and it's now been about a week since I was supposed to get my first period off birth control. When I was on birth control I was very regular.  
I was looking online and supposedly this is normal, but wondering if you could share your experience and what happened when you stopped birth control. Whether everything went back to normal right away, or it took a few months.

I recently came off B/C in February. It has taken my body 2.5 weeks to get a period.  
I was on birth control since a teenager and hadn't had a period in 8 years. So unnatural I know. Lol!

First things first - rule out that you're pregnant.  
 
How regular were you before going on the pill? The reason the pill makes you regular is because it forces you to be. So if you were irregular before, you'll probably be irregular now.  
 
But it can take up to a year for your body to normalize after stopping the pill, although most women will be back in the swing of things within a few months. It took me about 3 months, and although I ovulated right away I didn't have a long enough luteal phase (the time between when you ovulate and when your period starts) to sustain a pregnancy until my third cycle.  
 
Are you sure you ovulated? Once you ovulate, it typically takes a women 11-16 days to have their period (I remember my first cycle off the pill my luteal was only 9 days). If you haven't ovulated yet, you're not going to get a period.

I'm not overly sure how you know when you ovulate, I've never had any signs, so I guess I will just have to take a pregnancy test to rule that out then wait and see.

An indicator is an egg white like discharge. Sometimes it is thicker, sometimes a bit thinner.  
 
If you are watching for it, you will know. It is usually around day 14, but that can vary depending on different factors. It is pretty easy to identify, actually.

I was highly irregular. 30-65 days. I'm not sure if it was like that before BC or not bcz I never paid attention. It took around 9months of trying to conceive,over 1yr off BC

Was very regular while on it, when i went off it took two months for me to get it, then i was very irregular every 2-6 months id get it for the next two years, 3 years later i think im very close to regular every 4-6 weeks.

...and I remember going off the birth control pill too - and it took about 3 months to get back to a normal cycle - if you don't want to get pregnant, you need to use alternative protection - as you have no clue really as to when you will be ovulating. That was my experience.

when i stopped i went back to normal pretty quickly, although my cycles got shorter and shorter then settled around the 22-24 day range. i missed the 28 day cycles that i used to have while on the BCP! it's like having 2-3 extra periods a year. sucks.

Like Flutterby says, you can see increased discharge (cervical mucus, actually) as you approach ovulation, and it drops off dramatically once you ovulate.  
 
Other primary symptoms i:nclude cervical position (you would need to feel inside you for that, it's easier if you check every day) and basal temperature.  
 
If you google "fertility awareness" or "natural family planning", you'll find all kinds of information you were never taught about how your cycle works, including how to determine if you're ovulating.
