Has anyone had experience with the local Brandon Laser eye surgery? Good, bad or ugly would love to hear what your thoughts are before we go forward as my husband is thinking of getting his eyes done. Thanks!

I had mine done with Dr. Rocha and I would highly recommend him. Great doctor and the procedure went very smoothly.

With glasses, your prescription can change over time, so you need new glasses. Has anyone had laser surgery done many years ago and if so, did you have to get glasses again eventually anyway or did you have to get a laser retouch?

Do you need a referral from your family doctor to get into Dr.Rocha or how does that work?

In 2006 for near sightedness. Since last year I have had to start using reading glasses (which they warn you about) but otherwise all went well with surgery.

I suggest checking into the internal long term affects. My father had his done at Dr's suggestion a few years ago. In may I just about lost him permanently as the icu Dr explained that any laser surgery for cosmetic or cataracts. There is something that releases internally and can cause damage to your kidneys later on. Just a heads up to research the crap out it.

Do go see Dr. Rocha if you are considering laser eye surgery. Dr. Rocha is a corneal specialist and he will tell you whether you are a suitable candidate, and more importantly, if you are NOT a suitable candidate for laser surgery. In my case, after being told by LasikMD I was a suitable candidate, I went to Dr. Rocha for a second opinion. I had extreme myopia and Dr. Rocha explained that I would not be happy with the results because too much of my cornea would be burned off, and I had a potential weakness in one cornea such that laser surgery could lead to the need for a cornea transplant. LasikMD didn't mention this at all.  
 
In my case, he had options including the Staar ICL, which is a lens that goes between your iris and your natural lens. It doesn't affect your cornea, is reversible, and provides vision that is equal to or better than Lasik.  
 
Dr. Rocha stays on top of new technology and updates his training regularly.  
 
Price varies based on the degree of correction required and the procedure used. Unlike shopping for a car, don't base your decision on price alone - base it on the experience and reputation of the person doing the procedure. This is your eyesight after all and with laser surgery, there is no going back.

Does Dr. Rocha perform his surgeries here in Brandon, or just his consultations??

Dr. Rocha does all consultations in his Brandon office. However, if you are booked for Lasik I believe he uses the laser at Image Plus in Winnipeg. Implantation surgeries such as the Visian Staar ICL are performed at BRHC.

I went for consultations both to dr.rocha and LASIK md. I preferred and went with LASIK md. Very professional and did a wonderful job with no issues. Best decision I ever made!
