Is there one in Brandon ?

We do not. Although we should have one ........ Your doctor will have to refer you one in portage or winnipeg and the wait list can be long.

I see one in Winnipeg. He often has young doctors accompany him who are ready to start their own practice. I asked 3 different ones jokingly to set up in Brandon. Each one told me that Brandon had turned down at least 2 of their peers who had been interested in coming here. I asked my ENT if this was true and he said yes. Frustrating.

yes, these docs are specialists and hence patients require a referral from their primary care physician. The one in Portage is very good.

why would BRHA turn down a specialist we need so badly. That is crazy. I think there is a whole unit set up here at the hospital with no one to use it. That is what I was told years ago when I needed to see one.

I had sinus surgery with doctor Thess and had very good results he is a fantastic doctor

I have been see Dr. Thess in Portage a number of times - he is great. He is in the new clinic in the east of town. He does come to Brandon and Neepawa to do some operations. He referred me to an Ear Surgeon in Winnipeg, also a great doctor, for a consult. I asked the doctor why no specialist has set up in Brandon and he said the hospital only had space for the specialist at night - so even if the specialist was to set up a private practice at night, he would have difficulty getting time at the hospital for daytime operations. This is sad, but I think it shows just how busy our great hospital is.

.....we had a fairly urgent ear issue in our family when we moved to MB. Saw GP in August and got an ENT appointment in Winnipeg in January. Called the ENT office in Wpg and told them the urgent need(deaf and pain) and was told that there was nothing they could do to give an earlier appointment. Best she could offer was to tell us to go to the ER and get the obcall ENT to check it out. As we have no ENT in Brandon, we took a day off work/school to sit in the HSC ER in hopes of getting tended to. Had to demand to see the on call ENT and only saw residents. Thankfully, it did put us in a position to get an earlier appointment (Nov) with another ENT in Winnipeg  
I'd also called Portage and was told that an ER trip MIGHT get us in to see Thess, but there were no guarantees. Otherwise, they has a 4-6 month wait as well.  
Can't belueve that a city the size of Brandon with such a large outreach can't support an ENT
