Has anyone had ganglion removed from their wrist? Mine is not really bothering me except I cannot bend my wrist far enough backward to do push ups or other sports.  
Is it a fast procedure to remove the ganglion? During recovery, can I still write or type? Thanks.

I had one when I had my first child, from pushing around a stroller. I was seriously considering getting it removed as it was really really large...and was hurting when I'd bend too far... I did not get it removed though, and now (3 years later) it is completely gone. (Just FYI, Did not take a full 3 years for it to go lol). I guess I am not much of help to your question, but if it's not really hurting, I'd just leave it alone...

I had one removed about 13 years ago. Mine did hurt and limited my movement.  
 
The actual procedure was pretty fast. I had it done in St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. I just had a local anesthetic and a sedative, so I was awake but groggy during it. I rememeber the car ride home was pretty terrible because it hurt with every bump. I had to keep it wrapped and elevated for a couple weeks if I remember correctly. I am right handed and it was my left wrist, so it didn't affect me a ton, but I do remember I couldn't type with it for a while.  
 
The ganglion did come back after about two years. It didn't hurt though and although my movement is limited a bit, it's not as bad as it was. I do have a fairly noticeable bump where it had come back (and a couple inch scar from the surgery). At this point, I have no desire to have the procedure redone because it doesn't cause any pain, but I am very happy I had it done the first time.

I don't know if I should be recommending this or not but I know of people who have smashed them with heavy books

I had mine surgically removed here in Brandon and it was not a fun procedure, they used a tourniquet on my arm and worked away digging it out while I was awake. It was a local anesthetic but after about 45 minutes it did not feel good at all and I suffered nerve damage in my wrist as well. Long story short surgery isn't always the answer

sometimes get them on my fingers!! can be a bit bothersome...but they seem to go away on their own, just takes time.
