But could depend of your friend is a student or low income/on assistance? I always used to get my oral contraceptive from public health but as soon as I finished college I was told to start buying through a pharmacy. This was also 10 years ago but could depend on individual basis. Any of my friends who have an iud get it done in the dr office and have to pay for it. Would be nice if some could get it for free as it is costly.

If you want a copper IUD public health will do it for free. But not the hormonal ones (Mirena).

Yes, as frbrook said, the copper IUD is available free through the Sexual Health program at Public Health. An appointment definitely needs to be booked to talk to them about it first. The public health nurses aren't the ones who insert them, it will be an NP or MD.

Call the Sexual Health Intake Line before you go. 578-2513 You will speak directly to one of the nurses in the program.
