I am looking for advice on where to get a good quality king sized mattress set for a reasonable price. If anyone can share where they’ve had good or bad experiences it would be appreciated.

This past June I went to several furniture stores and I found that the best two stores for service were The Brick and Sleep Country. At the brick, they were very knowledgable and let you test several beds with different pillows for comfort, as well as letting you know which were best for side sleepers, back sleepers, etc.  
 
I also went to sleep country to see what they had, and I told the guy that I already had my mind set on one particular bed and pillow and not only did he find me the right mattress, but he price matched and did a 5% discount!

They will negotiate also. I got taxes thrown in and a discount. They were also selling the pillows I wanted at 2 for $140, and I only wanted one, so he did just give me one at $70.  
 
In fact, we just called to get a single for the extra room and they were able to tell me the make and model I got, which of course has now changed names and so they were able to give me the new name and model.  
They also let you try out several beds.  
 
They delivered ours on a Sunday, which was nice. No one had to take time off, had time to get things ready.  
 
(just a tip of this is your first King size bed, that I never thought of. Bedding is very expensive and can be hard to find)

Buy the mattress cover. Don’t bother with the extended or store warranty. We had problems with one brand of mattress sagging horribly (think counting sheep), and neither the stores (no, we stupidly didn’t learn the first time...) nor the manufacturer would do a darn thing about it even though both times the mattress was less than a year old (had sweat stains. The extended warranty covered cleaning, but the cleaning company they used didn’t get it clean anyway.)

We got our King size mattress from Dufrense, they had a 90 day trial, if it didn't feel right, you could exchange. We also took advantage of that because the original one that we received was mislabeled in the factory. Great customer service and incredible bed.

Bought almost all mattresses here. Almost all places offer a trial period for a mattress. If you buy an expensive pillow keep in mind sleep country does NOT allow returns because you may have "drooled on it". Not sure why that's not allowed but you can be "intimate" on your mattress and return no questions asked. Seems silly but ya I recommend sleep country.
