Grocery Deals and non-deals

Did you ever think that the difference between shopping in one place is only a few cents cheaper or more expensive than another. Think again...Yesterday I went out to buy a cantaloupe. First stop was at Marketplace Co-op where I was scared right out of the store by the hefty price of $1.29 per Lb. The average weight in Lbs is 3 1/2 which would have brought the cost to about $4.50. I then went to Safeway and was relieve to find the price at a more reasonable amount of $0.79 per Lb and so I bought it for $2.57. I was quite happy with that price till I opened the Super Store flyer where cantaloupes were $1.48 each. Anyone really know how these pricing systems work? I think as consumers we need a little pre-warning on some groceries before heading out shopping. I wonder if we can continue this thread with posts about extremes or suspected extremes and really good prices too. As I have shown, there's more than a few cents to be gained or lost when grocery shopping.
