Swimming Pools - Advice & Opinions

I am contemplating putting in an in-ground swimming pool and I am wondering if anyone can give me their advice.
For those who have a pool do you think it is worth the investment for such a short season?
Is it a lot of work to maintain the pool?
Besides Krevco - does anyone know anyone local who does pool installations?
It's just that we finally have a nice day that I'm thinking summer
