Making a driveway

I have a property that has back lane parking only. Has a very large front boulevard. My question is, are you allowed to make a front drive if you do it properly with culverts? There is not really any reason why parking would not be allowed as further up the street there is front parking. Any thoughts?

will have to get a permit to commence any construction on your property, namely a drive way with culverts!

I looked into driveways. Driveway permit from city is $165. Will need to do site plan. You would be responsible for all costs. And any work done on city property must be done by a bonded contractor with the city of Brandon.

That is the email info I got from the city regarding driveways.

Start with a visit to Brandon Area and Planning. They are the building east of the YMCA.

have to build an approach, cut into the city sidewalk in order to access your driveway. Do you have a sidewalk with curbs?

I fought with the city over this last year and big shocker, I lost. I was told if you have access to a back lane and don't have a front driveway you are not allowed to put a driveway in and the city would not grant me permission to do so. If you do get permission though please let me know how you went about doing it. Hopefully you have better luck than me

Is that a new rule? Because there's a whole development of housing behind Fowler's that has both front drives and back lanes.

Would be because that's a newer development and was built that way. I live in an older area of town and was told if my house had access to a back lane but didn't currently have a front driveway I couldn't have one put in. I wasn't given any other reason other than " that's their law and there's nothing I can do about it" I'm assuming that doesn't apply to new builds

We live in an older neighbourhood (homes are 50 years old) where we all have back lane access. Some houses have driveways and garages in the front and other have them in the back. When the house next door was sold about 4-5 years ago the new owners put in a front driveway, and they already had a driveway and garage off the back lane.
