Can anyone recommend a dog food brand that has worked well for you?  
Looking for recommendations for a mid range for price for a medium to large breed dog

I had a giant breed and I always feed him Actrium for large breed. It was the only food that didn’t affect his allergies and he didn’t stink so bad with.

From Feedrite $46.25 tax in for a 34 lbs bag.

We have always used Kirkland dog food, not full of fillers, costs around $35-$38 per bag depending on the flavor.

Presidents Choice dog food is good from Super Store. The Extra is the one I get for my dog. There is also a nutrition one. Haven't tried that one.

That does not have grain or corn as it's ingredient. we started to feed our dogs grain free food after we realized one was allergic to the stuff we were feeding them. His allergy turn around and our 15 year old Samoyed who hadn't run in the yard for 5 years was jumping and running like a pup again. We will never feed grain based foods again.

$46 for 40 lbs-the dogs like it and do well on it. Buy 11 bags and get the 12th one free.

Same here. Purina One 14 Kg bag is around $40 I believe. Our dogs love it.

Unfortunately you have to take what the vet recommends with a grain of salt when it comes to dog food as they are usually provided benefits by low quality brands to push their products. Purina One for example is a pretty poor dog food filled with fillers. Grain free is the way to go and we also settled on Kirkland after trying many pet store brands. It’s a good balance of quality grain free food that’s good for your dog and good value as well.

Interesting article that shows the benefits/detriments of dogs with grain free dog food. Plus Purina One is NOT filled with fillers. It is a mid-range priced dog food that is filled with REAL meat and all the nutrients and minerals that your dog needs. Unless your dog needs a specialty diet for digestive issues , going the grain free route has no benefit for your pet.

Kirkland is good however I use the natural one which is more expensive. They still have fillers but not corn and wheat but beets and peas.  
PC brandon is actually listed as healthier than the Kirkland brands. I use Lamb and RiceYes for all my dogs. Atrium also has a good lamb and rice brand.

Doesn't work for most people but mine get dead animals, fish, and table scraps. When that runs out they get peavey mart cheap stuff. My last dog was 14 years old before he had any health issues. As far as grain goes, I'm not sure why people don't think dogs like it or want it. My Pyrenees sits down and eats corn and oats with the sheep. she has all kinds of other food free choice but still eats grain.

of them liking it it's a matter of allergens dog seem to develop from it. A lot of dog breeds do not do well on it. They develop issues with movement and overall health.

We use Pulsar from Pet Lovers on Park Ave. West of 18th. It is made in Saskatchewan. It has no grains but has legumes (peas)etc. No animal byproducts. Comes in Turkey, Chicken,& Fish flavours. Chicken & Turkey meat are sourced locally apparently and Fish comes from BC.

I second the PC brand. Our very active working dog lived to 13 with no issues on it. Our current active working dog is on the same. We also feed real meat & uncooked bones with marrow when we can.  
 
Grain in feed can make dogs susceptible to harboring fleas. We found that out with a past dog that had fleas. He was eating grains for some reason. Something we read suggested a grain free diet when dealing with a dog with fleas.  
 
I think of what a dog would normally eat if in the wild. They would certainly have meat & bones (from large hoofed animals & fish, birds, rabbits & so on), eggs, a few insects, a touch of fruit (coyotes & foxes will eat fruit), no veggies or gravy (although we had a dog that would carefully shell peas and eat them one at a time), certainly not corn nor soy, nor any fillers or synthetic additives (colors & flavors). This is what we use to determine what to feed our dog.  
 
We read the ingredients labels carefully just as we do for ourselves.

Kirkland. I went the no grains way as well. I also give a teaspoon of coconut oil each day to help with my allergies. Less dander that way.

We have taken both our pups to training with a local trainer. She advised us to use nutrisource. Good brand. Little fillers. Checking dog food advisor as well it is 4/5 stars. You can buy it at best west. Every 12th bag is free like many other places.
