Hi,  
 
This is going to sound like an odd request, but I was wondering if anyone had a Russian blue cat that my husband can test his allergies with?  
 
He seems to be allergic to most cats and dogs. We tested him out with Bengal cats and he's still allergic to those, but he didn't seem to react to spending a bit of time with a Russian Blue. However, it was only about 10 minutes of time (and we went back to the house with the Bengals so it was hard to tell), so I would like to test his allergies for a longer amount of time.  
 
There are no breeders near here and I don't want to fly or drive to Ontario or BC just to test this! We are doing an allergy test, but it won't test specific types of cats.  
 
If we could come hang out with your cat that would be neat! I know that sounds weird, sorry. Unless anyone has any better suggestions? Thanks!

sorry I do not have that type of cats so I cannot help here I just thought it is a good idea you have to test first before making a big purchase then stuck to rehome a cat because of allergies.

Maybe try contacting local rescues and see if they have any. I'm sure they would appreciate that you are testing before, like Plus Zero said, getting one and having to rehome. I'd recommend groups like, One at a Time Kitty Rescue, Strays that Can't Pay, Virden Pet Network, Westman Animal Rescue, and the Brandon Humane Society!

Had to rehome our Blue Russian because it this exact reason. Still didn’t work out for us. Just have a fur real kitty now!!

The cat you want to try is a Siberian. Do a Google search on the breed. I have never heard of a Russian Blue not causing allergies. There is a Siberian Breeder in Winnipeg.

There are a few things that a person can do to decrease allergies. There is a product called Aller Pet C (also one for dogs called Aller Pet D) - it's a liquid that you put on a cloth and then rub onto the pet. It decreases dander and shedding. A high-quality food also helps with shedding and allergens. Lastly, some people are allergic to the dust from the litter as well - non-clay litters like Yesterday's News or silicone litter can decrease allergens.
