Kennel cough

Keep an eye on your pups. I woke up to a sick dog this morning. No symptoms yesterday, running around happy. This morning woke up to coughing. Ive been told the bordatella vaccine isnt completely effective. Guess this says something

I missed getting one of my dogs immunized, I simply missed the reminder email. I took him to the groomer and her got kennel cough. He was very sick, I took him to vet and got meds. He was quite sick for a couple weeks. My other dog that was immunized did get it but wasn’t nearly as sick. He did not need any meds and was better much quicker.

Ive started my boy on Elderberry extract for the cough, and Vitamin C. His cough isnt horribly bad. Just the occasional, other then that he is still pretty happy. This morning was an "Im sick and just want to be cuddled" morning lol. Heres to hoping he is gets better fast.

Was vaccinated with the bordetella vaccine and no sign of any illness....where did your pup pickup the illness from....was he at a groomers, pet shop or at the kennels?

Dogs can pick this up anywhere.... if outside near grass and another dog had it. Even another dog with it—It’s like us getting a cold we don’t know as to where we got the bug.

It's a virus. He could have picked it up anywhere. He is always out and about with us. Pretty much everywhere we go he goes so there's no way to pinpoint.

Your dog can catch it from walking by another dog, dog parks, kennels, etc. My dog got it from the dog park last year and she was sick for weeks … not fun. Hopefully she doesn’t catch it again

Our dog was vaccinated and caught it from a kennel last year. Wasn’t too serious. Very very bad cough for two weeks or so. Since he’s older he did have a lot of wheezing for several months afterwards. Didn’t affect him energy wise or anything like that.

It can be shared with your cats.

I left my dog at one of the kennels a few years back. We brought her home with kennel cough (yes, she had been vaccinated) and within days the cat was coughing too and they were both put on meds.

I honestly don't recall if there is a vaccine for cats, but the vet said it was not uncommon for cross species sharing.
