my dog is eating his poop

My puppy won’t stop eating his poop. He’s almost 6 months old. He just started this like a week ago. Any ideas as to why or how to get him to stop?

It could be an issue with not getting the nutrients he wants from his food. Try giving the doggy some bananas and see if it helps.

the same problem with my puppy. Asked vet about it and he gave me something to put on her food. It did not affect the taste of her food but made her poop taste awful. Worked like a charm.

The powder mentioned above is called Forbid. It works sometimes but not for all dogs.
Best advice is to simply keep the poop cleaned up. When your dog turns away from the poop without touching it reward your dog for doing so. There is no real fix for this.

even cheaper is to sprinkle MSG on their food. they wont eat the poop after that.

A better quality of food. Foods higher in grains don't give them enough nutrients. Puppy's need a lot of nutrients and protein for their growing body's. If he's a large breed of dog make sure you have him on a large breed puppy food. They are formulated to slow his growth to prevent Hip dysplasia. If pups are getting what they need from their food they won't eat their poop.

My beagle also eats her own, plus the other dogs in the house’s poop. We’ve done the pineapple in the food, higher quality grain free food, crappier quality food, the nutri-vet tablets from pet value, plus another brand online... nothing works for us. If we keep it cleaned up, she scarfs it down as soon as she’s done. I’ve come to accept that this is just her and there’s nothing I can do about it.

If you haven't already you could try contacting the Petmobile clinic and Dr. Mawer. My regular vet recommended a consultation with her for some behavior stuff with my cat. My regular vet recommended her as being particularly knowledgeable regarding behavior issues in cats, dogs, and horses. Could be worth it.

Our beagle does this as well, we just kind of turn a blind eye to it. Just no licking the face afterwards haha

Deworming on a regular basis might be a good idea.
