What happens to a dog once you surrender it? I have clled the pound, humane society and they dont even have record of my dog! It was the pound who i surrendered it to

If you surrendered your dog they would have taken that as you could no long care for or look after it. Animals that are at the pound are only kept for so long before they are either adopted by someone or possibly sent to a rescue to be fostered or adopted. Hell cats get euthanized if they are there too long and go unclaimed.

The pound has new owners. So no they won''t have record of the dog. Animals at the pound either get adopted, rescued or euthanized. so it would be one of those 3 things that happened.... Once surrendered you don't have the right to access that information.

Doesn't the city own the pound?  
 
If they don't, who owned it before and who owns it now?

The city has never owned the pound. The pound is located at Brandon boarding kennels. The city employs them as part of the pound. The other part is kennels and such for boarding animals when people go away. The new owners are super nice people and do everything they can for the animals in their care, and to get the animals adopted out rather then euthanized. The previous owners we also very good about it. We are very fortunate to have such amazing people here.

I just assumed "the pound" was a city-run operation. Clearly, I was wrong.

I think it was kaylagurl that explained above that "the pound" was handled by one entity previously, and now it's someone else. Records didn't transfer. I asked a question about how the pound is run because I was confused too as I always assumed it was just a city department (it isn't).  
 
We have no idea of what time frame between when the OP surrendered their animal and now. But also as explained above, the animal likely would have been adopted, rescued or euthanized, because it's no longer at the pound.

Once you surrender a dog, as stated above, it is either adopted out, taken in by a rescue, or euthanized. No matter which of those things happened, they will not release any information back to the person who surrendered the animal.

Sometimes sharing information,that is sort of relative to the topic, is not a bad thing, I for one was ignorant of who owned the pound, and had always assumed that animals that ended up there where on death row.  
Not knowing the situation in which the dog was surrendered, should not leave us judgemental of the circumstances.

Personally I don't think it matters why the op surrendered. Sometimes it's all you can do and hope for the best.  
 
With that being said there are many rescues who take from the Brandon pound. Dogs usually get adopted or rescued.  
Cats have been being adopted rather then euthanized which is awesome. The pound works closely with Bala and they all do their best to avoid any euthanasia.  
 
Unless of course they medically need to be euthanized. Pets with serious medical contions sometimes are euthanized. But if they can be saved they get saved. It's the city who decides what kind of vetting the animals recieve as they foot the bill. Until a rescue or adoptor steps up.

It means voluntarily giving up the rights to your dog (or cat) because for a number of reasons you are unable to care for it.  
There may be a fee associated with doing so.
