Can someone identify this mushroom. Tonight my dog found these in the yard and was playing with them. I’m not sure if he actually ate any but he definitely was into them. Everything I have read on the internet sounds so bad. Any help would be appreciated. Pictures are posted here.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you but I also have these growing in my yard for the last couple of years. I too would be interested in identification. So far my pup hasn't had any interest in them but just in case....

REMOVE ANY/ALL MUSHROOMS. That goes for all pet owners.  
 
Your photos, in my opinion, appear to be of a mushroom called "Mica Cap". I am not a professional but do know mushrooms can be very toxic for animals, even though safe for human consumption.  
 
Fungus in general, and what is safe for our pets to consume, is unknown. There are many different wild types. The best thing you can do for the safety of pets (your dog in this case) Is to remove the patch and any other patches in your yard. Preventative measures are better than emergency trips.  
 
Signs of ingestion with negative reaction can include;  
-vomiting  
-loss of balance  
-salivating  
-coma  
-siezures  
 
Mushroom poisoning happens fast in their bodies. And although maybe expensive, always at least consider taking your dog in to see a vet.

It's generally impossible to ID mushroom species based on a photo, especially the "little brown mushroom" varieties. Field guides for mushroom identification include things like cross-section characteristics, colour of spore prints, common look-alike species, the list goes on.  
 
Even professional mycologists sometimes get it wrong with fatal results, because there is variation within species and also not every species has been identified/described.

Remove all mushrooms from the yard. Though these might not hurt your dog the next ones he eats may be fatal. Because dogs can not discern the good or poison ones best to teach him not to eat any.
