Hi! I am seriously considering the wireless dog fences but am not sure which one to get so thought I would go on here and see if anyone has info on them. Prices, where they got them and how well they actually work. I should also mention it is a smaller dog.

Once Fido learns that he/she can simply bolt thru the initial shock (they only activate between the posts), they are useless.  
 
Put up a real fence or use an extended leash.

They work better for larger properties. You also need to do the proper training for the for it to be effective

I purchased a wired system that you lay in the ground to form a perimeter. $240 for system and (1) extra collar as I have 2 dogs.  
 
Well, after taking the collars out of the box, I noticed that they have (2) big metal prongs that need to make contact with the dogs skin. I just can't see how it would be feasible for a dog to wear this collar all the time as those prongs would wear into their skin and become uncomfortable. So you end up taking the collar on and off as they go out. Not worth it, putting up a fence instead.

Pet Safe units have a boundary area of aprox 3 feet where the dog gets a audible beep from the collar. If they go beyond that area they get the shock, for maximum 30 minutes, until they get back into the safe area. Have a neighbour using one and his dog will not leave the safe area no matter the enticement to do so. I have bought the same system online and will be installing this weekend. Adjusted properly the prongs on the collar do not irritate the dog.

I used one on a smaller dog years ago. Spent proper time training and then Duwayne is right, they get a warning beep before shocks and if properly trained they respect it. Heck even the flags used for proper training were so effective for my dog that if I went to a friends house for a visit, I could just grab the flags and quickly put them up on friends yard and we could sit outside and he didn't even attempt to go past a flag! I would recommend it but training is key.

I agree, the quality of product has always worked for us. We get "Houdini dogs" that love to just follow their nose. I am always afraid they are gonna get run over or treated poorly by someone they meet up with. Once we got a wired fence, and trained our dog...she never escaped again. She got zapped once and learned right away. Better than a visit to the vet after being run over in my mind. Fast forward about 6 yrs, had to replace transmitter unit because ours finally gave out. I got a hold of pet safe and they informed me that virtually all of their transmitters work with all their collars. Everything is on the same frequency. Very convenient. Just replaced the transmitter not entire system. Hooked it all up and new dog is learning it now.
