Wild Turkeys in East Brandon

Hi Guys. - we were driving down east Brandon - not sure what street. 5 HUGE wild turkeys were gobbling down their merry way. Any idea where the turkeys came from?

you new to the city? Most that have been here for awhile have seen them cruising around lol. They are wild turkeys and roam free around the south end on a regular basis. Most of us just give them their space and watch their antics

Seeing how it's her first post, I would hazard the answer is "yes".

Welcome to the city. We occasionally get the turkeys here in the west end, along with deer, skunks and lots and lots of rabbits.

well I have lived in Brandon for 6 years but don't venture into the East end ever so that is my first time seeing turkeys and I thought it was quite hilarious Good to know they are local

They are urban turkeys.....hatched in the city. We see them a lot in the south end. Saw a hen with 10 chicks yesterday.

do you know they're urban turkeys ? Urban style of gobbling or the low hanging feathers exposing their gitch ? lol

From what I understand, the turkeys came from the Carolinas. They were brought here to control some sort of problem or brought here for sport hunting. They now live here with next to no predators and seems as though not many people are interested in hunting.

There are lots of wild turkeys in Southern Manitoba ... Primarily SW Manitoba. There is a spring and a fall season and you are allowed 1 turkey a year, not per season. Also the rules vary for each season, so people who plan to hunt wild turkeys they need to read the hunting guide and familiarize themselves.
The fall season opened yesterday!

I agree, the meat is great!
