cat suddenly starting to poop outside his box

Litter is cleaned everyday, nothing different happening at home..

I’m at a loss.. any ideas for why this is happening?

My son's roommates had a cat that was well trained. Then they got a puppy and it must have ticked the cat off because it started to stand in the litter box and poop outside it, every time. You can understand it being ticked off, but in your case if nothing has changed I am unsure why it would do it, but something must have changed in it's view of the world.

Medical problem

sometimes when cats start breaking their litter routine there is a medical problem causing them to do this. If the box is always well-cleaned, nothing new (another pet, baby, other person) in the household there may be a physical health problem brewing.

Perhap consult Dr. Mawer

I was having a different issue with my cat but after exploring all likely physical reasons my regular vet recommended contacting Dr. Mawer. They recommended her as being particularly knowledgeable regarding cat behavior. She operates the Petmobile vet service so it is a little more for a house call for her to come to you but I thought it was well worth it.

is available in Brandon for mobile vet. There's a male vet who works mainly in evenings that my daughter uses & she is always telling me about how reasonable the prices are. She just became gainfully employed & before that was a student & $$ was tight so if she said his prices are reasonable they must have been! She's also impressed with his knowledge - she has a cat with allergy & this vet has helped the cat cope with the "hot spots".

Yes there are more than one mobile vet, but Dr Mawer specializes in behavior issues.

It is happening all the time or just once in awhile?
Could it possibly be a hairball that he is trying to pass?
We use Vitalax to keep things moving properly with no hairballs or problems with poops.

Ive had 2 cats do this in past... the one always went in head first and voila! The other one i added a second litter box and she uses both and has stopped. Good luck
