With the price of Dogs and having multiple litters , Do they have to report it as income to Revenue Canada ?

I would think that it is extremely uncommon for people that sell puppies to report that as income, unless it is literally their business.

Unless you do not get shots or vet checks and you feed the parent dogs garbage, there is no money to be made, even if you sell a litter of puppies (lets say 4 puppies at $750 each) there is little to no money to be made, so no people do not claim that as income, thats rediculous. Why would someone potentially making (profit not income) $100-$500 for a litter of puppies income bother you? There are a million hidden costs when it comes to dogs (we have 5 dogs), there is definitely no money to be made, trust me on that one.

The flip side, if you're breeding and selling puppies as a business and are doing it at a loss - you could claim your expenses and reduce the amount of taxes owing on other sources of income.  
 
Technically, even if it's only $500 profit you're supposed to claim it as income under the appropriate category. All income from employment, investments (including savings accounts) or business counts, no matter how small, unless specifically exempt.

these puppies being sold can also be sold as hidden import dogs from other countrys it was on market place w5 cbc show being brought into canada illegally

When I stated you might make 100 or 500 bucks on a litter this does not i:nclude the costs for the parents, by the time you take the costs for the parent dogs there is ZERO money to be made. No one claims money made on puppy sales, period! I go through $4000 a year in dog food alone, plus vet bills for my 5 dogs.

No kidding. If people made ZERO dollars then no one would do it. Obviously they make money, maybe not always a lot but they ain't losing money and doing it cause they love animals...

If you are a legitimate breeder who looks after their pets properly there will usually be enough money to just cover the cost with a little left to re invest in your kennel. By the time you pay to have your dog bred. Pay for the prenatal care which usually i:ncludes a few visits to the vet and possible xrays, for a litter count, and the extra food eaten to provide the energy a pregnant dog needs to support the pups before and after they are born. There is also the cost of being a member of the CKC then registering the litter with the CKC then registering each pup then transfering the registration to the new owner all of which has a seperate cost. Not to mention the vet checks and shots for the pups and the food they eat until 6 weeks old. Then is all the clean up and care for 6 weeks which takes a few hours a day. By the end of it all you worked for likely less than a dollar per hour. To sum it up it's a lot of work for little reward if you are a responsible breeder.

To the original question being asked us almost always yes - it must be reported as income to the Canada Revenue Agency.  
 
One exception is if you genuinely lose money. For example in a case where you are just doing something as a hobby and selling stuff at a loss because you enjoy making the item, etc.  
 
To say that the profit is so small that nobody reports it - fine, but that's not how the law actually works. If you make profit or operate with the intention of making profit it should be reported.

I bought my foster fail from the humane society. Doesn’t have any fancy CKC papers. But is the most loyal dog you ever met. Very well mannered and never makes a mess in the house.
