This problem in older dogs, mostly female, stems not from spaying or not spaying. But more importantly when you decide to spay.
To get ideal hormone development and bone growth, it is advised to wait until 2 years of age before fixing a dog, , male or female.
In the least wait for one heat cycle or two before fixing. Our first lab was spayed right at 6 months. By the time she was 8 she started having problems with the bladder....directly related to early spaying.
A lot of vets will not inform of these side effects. Some do
