How much does it cost to spay or neuter cats? There was a cat hanging around our acreage recently and before I could look into it further, we discovered kittens in our barn!  
 
I know I need to wait until the kittens are weaned but I was wondering if there are any programs to assist in spay or neutering? I don’t know where this cat came from but has been coming and going for a short time. Even though it’s a stray I would like to look at getting them fixed but wasn’t sure the process or cost.

Hello, Our farm is overrun with feral cats from neighbouring properties. We didn't have pets before but have well over 20 cats on our property who are riddled with ear mites and worms. A number of litters were born on our property last summer. We nursed kittens with distemper to health but sadly lost a number of them. I heard about the Virden Pet Network through a veterinarian friend and reached out to them. They are a registered charity who works in partnership with the Virden animal Hospital. We have had 14cats and kittens spayed and neutered over the last 10 months or so. We have been catching them and transporting to Virden. Most of our family members all have pet cats now. None of us were cat people except for one brother. Feel free to message if you have questions about our experience. My husband and I have been very involved in fostering dogs from high kill shelters for a number of years in BC. I feel we need education in this province and likely all provinces about responsible pet ownership, even if we just have cats for mousing/ barn cats. I know the cat population can get out of control quick so I’d like to do my part to not add to the problem.

I had my indoor cat fixed this spring so I know the cost. Both of you deserve a big thank you for doing this, especially since the cats weren’t yours to start with!

Some vet clinics give discounts for multiple pets (they don't all have to be brought in at the same time, just under the same owner's name). The most reasonable I have found is Killarney Vet Clinic for three or more mix and match spays/ neuters (altho Glenboro might be the same pricing because they are owned by the same group of vets). There are some vet clinics who do 'barn cat' specials. And there are some who do a 'neuter' day. As stated, there may also be rescues who work with people to spay/ neuter multiple cats, like Blue said above.

I got our cat through Virden and he was about $90 to adopt (it was 3 year ago) and the great thing about adopting is came with a neuter at a Brandon clinic.
